The Saint Vincent women’s basketball team ran its winning streak to five with a 66-45 victory over visiting Allegheny on Saturday.

The Bearcats (11-4, 6-0) continued to enjoy playing on their home floor, where they are 6-0.

Junior Olivia Yancy and sophomore Emerson Peffer combined for 30 points off the bench — 15 each — as SVC jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter that they stretched to 39-13 at the half.

Danielle Pontius added 12 points for the Bearcats. Peffer, who hit 7 of 13 shots, also grabbed eight rebounds.

SVC is averaging 10.9 steals.

Allegheny: Sophomore Ava Kobus (Norwin) tied a season high with 20 points, adding four rebounds and two blocks in a 72-67 victory over Grove City.

Kobus played 31 minutes off the bench and made 9 of 15 shots.

Bethany: Junior forward Kate Botti (Norwin) had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes as the Bison defeated Thiel, 82-56, for their seventh win in eight games.

Chatham: Senior Alyssa Laukus (Norwin) led all scorers with 25 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career as the Cougars toppled Grove City, 84-54.

Laukas, the seventh player in program history to reach the milestone, was 11 for 15 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists.

Holy Family: Sophomore Lauren Palangio (Norwin) scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench in a 54-36 victory over Bridgeport.

Seton Hill: The Griffins (13-3, 9-1 PSAC) won for the 12th time in 13 games, and moved to 6-1 at home, with a 96-75 victory over Slippery Rock. Senior twins Hallie Cowan and Helen Cowan combined for 50 points — Hallie had 27 and Helene 23 — and junior Mia Kalich added another double-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, for the Griffins.

Shippensburg: Freshman Lauren Marton (Penn-Trafford) had 12 points and four rebounds in a 64-54 loss to Kutztown.

Men’s basketball

La Roche: Sophomore guard Cooper Rankin (Franklin Regional) scored 14 points and handed out seven assists in 41 minutes as the Red Hawks pushed past Penn State Altoona, 106-102, in overtime.

Rankin (10.1 ppg) has four straight double-figure scoring games.

Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Ty Keffer (Southmoreland) rode a hot start to a game-high 18 points, and senior Trent Rozich added 11 points and eight rebounds as the Bobcats (14-2, 6-1) held off visiting Hilbert, 64-60, in AMCC play.

Senior Jackson Byer made a key basket off the glass with 11 seconds remaining to make it 62-60.

Pitt-Johnstown: Junior guard Adam Bilinsky (Norwin) scored 15 points and dished four assists, but the Mountain Cats fell to Clarion, 84-79.

Saint Vincent: Senior Jaden Gales had 23 points and nine rebounds (8 of 15 field goals), sophomore Terek Crosby (Yough) added 12 points and freshman Jaden Payne and grad student Mike Iuzzolino added 11 each as SVC (8-7, 3-3 PAC) defeated Allegheny, 85-59.

Payne was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week.

Seton Hill: Junior Kedrick Curtis and freshman Rashaad Williams tied a game high with 21 points as the Griffins handled Slippery Rock, 88-62, to move to 7-1 at home.

Curtis, who was 7 of 13 from the floor and 6 for 6 at the foul line, also grabbed 13 rebounds. Senior Gabe Gillespie added 14 points, and junior Camden Brewer had 10 in the win.

Williams made 7 of 10 shots, including 3 of 4 3s. The Griffins (13-5, 7-3 PSAC) made 10 3s in the game.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Cam Rowell (Franklin Regional) had nine points, four rebounds and four steals off the bench as the Presidents beat Waynesburg, 93-63, in PAC action.

Wrestling

Pitt: Redshirt junior 184-pounder Chase Kranitz (Norwin) knocked off No. 19 Ian Bush, 4-2, to start the 15th-ranked Panthers on a comeback against No. 22 West Virginia.

No. 15 Dayton Pitzer (Mt. Pleasant), another redshirt junior, added a 12-1 major decision at heavyweight as Pitt won, 17-15.

The Panthers won the final three matches.

Following that victory, Kranitz and Pitzer, along with redshirt junior Briar Priest (Hempfield) recorded wins in a 40-0 win at Duke. Pitt is 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC.

Saint Vincent: Behind four technical falls, two pins and two major decisions, the Bearcats (3-1, 2-1 PAC) coasted in their home opener, downing Thiel, 38-6.

Freshmen Logan Connelly (133 pounds) and Jonah McCoy (heavyweight) had pins for SVC, and sophomore Anthony Orlandini (149) and senior Kyle McCollum (141) were dominant in technical fall wins.

Men’s swimming

Saint Vincent: Senior Jacob Dzurica (Hempfield) won the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes and the 50 freestyle as the Bearcats defeated Penn State Altoona, 148-107.

Washington & Jefferson: Senior Nathaniel Harden (Hempfield) won the 100 breaststroke (1 minutes, 3.10 seconds), and took second in the 200 breast as W&J defeated Allegheny, 231-29.

Sophomore Micah Lohr (Hempfield) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.12 and was second in the 200 butterfly. Junior Daniel Jeffries (Hempfield) took first in the 200 backstroke (2:08.60).

Westminster: Grad student Gino Piraino (Franklin Regional) finished second in the 1-meter dive at the Rich Sentner Diving Invitational at Westminster.

Piraino scored a 264.35 in the 11-dive event.

Women’s swimming

Grove City: Freshman diver Chaeli Keenan (Derry) swept both events, winning the 1-meter dive with a score of 228.30 and the 3-meter event in 246.10 as the Wolverines defeated Penn State Behrend, 179-105.

Pitt-Johnstown: Freshman Maddie Barrick (Mt. Pleasant) finished 14th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:45.36 at the IUP Last Chance Invitational.

Barrick also is a soccer standout for UPJ.

Saint Vincent: Senior Rachel Hutchinson won the 200 and 500 freestyle, and junior Adriana Grimm took first in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle in SVC’s 167-84 victory over Penn State Altoona.

Men’s volleyball

Grove City: Junior Andrew Kessler (Penn-Trafford) had 10 kills on 17 attacks, and junior Carson Good (Penn-Trafford) contributed eight kills in a 3-1 loss to No. 15 Baldwin Wallace.

Women’s track & field

Duquesne: Junior Cydney Blahovec (Hempfield) finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:20.91, freshman Brandi Brozeski (Norwin) placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 9.5 inches and seventh in the high jump (5-3.25) and freshman Melani Schmidt (Norwin) took sixth in the 200 (25.75) at the YSU Collegiate Invitational.

Westminster: Senior Abigail Painter (Ligonier Valley) helped the 1,600 relay to a fourth-place finish at the Al Campbell Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The foursome finished in a time of 4 minutes, 28.03 seconds.

Men’s track & field

Seton Hill: Senior Angelo Allen won the shot put with a throw of 15.77 meters at the Muskingum Muskie Meet.

Baseball

Pitt-Greensburg: Senior outfielder James Domer was named a first-team All-American by D3Baseball.com.

Domer was the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year last season when he led Division III in batting average (.496) and finished second in the conference in home runs (8) and slugging (.815).

He led UPG in every offensive category.

Football: Freshman tight end Braden Laux (Belle Vernon) is transferring from Eastern Michigan to Cal (Pa.).
