Welcome to the final night of section duals in the WPIAL boys wrestling regular season.
With the district team playoffs coming up next week, there are six section championships in Class 3A that will be determined in head-to-head matches Wednesday.
• The winner of the Moon at West Allegheny match will be the Section 1-3A outright champion.
• The winner of the Canon-McMillan at Trinity match will be the Section 2-3A outright winner.
• The winner when Mt. Lebanon hosts Peters Township will finish tied for the Section 3-3A crown with Baldwin. If the Blue Devils win, they will win the section because they defeated Baldwin earlier this season. If the Indians win, the Highlanders will claim the section title because they defeated Peters Township.
• Central Catholic can tie North Hills for the Section 6-3A championship if the Vikings can beat the host Indians. If Central Catholic wins and Shaler beats Penn Hills, then Central Catholic, North Hills and Shaler will share the title. If North Hills wins, it is the outright section champion.
• The winner of the Connellsville at Latrobe match will be the Section 8-3A champ.
• The winner when Franklin Regional hosts Norwin match takes the crown in Section 9-3A.
2A crowns up for grabs
There are also six section titles up for grabs in WPIAL Class 2A boys team wrestling that will be determined in head-to-head matches Wednesday.
• The winner of the McGuffey at Chartiers-Houston match wins the Section 1-2A title.
• Burgettstown can win the Section 2-2A title with a home win over Hopewell. The Vikings can win the section with a victory over the Blue Devils. If Hopewell wins, Avella can earn a share of the section championship with a victory at South Side.
• Laurel can win the Section 4-2A title with a home win over Ellwood City. The Wolverines can win the section with a victory over the Spartans. If Ellwood City wins, Knoch can earn a share of the section championship with a victory over Summit Academy.
• The winner of the Central Valley at Freedom match wins the Section 5-2A championship.
• Keystone Oaks can win the Section 6-2A title with a road victory over Quaker Valley. The Quakers can win the section with a victory over the Golden Eagles. If Quaker Valley wins, Avonworth can earn a share of the section championship with a victory over Carlynton.
• Elizabeth Forward can win the Section 7-2A title with a road triumph over South Park. The Eagles can earn a share of the section championship with a victory over the Warriors. If South Park wins, Southmoreland will also get a piece of the pie with tri-champions atop the section.
Midweek 4A fray
There are more than a dozen nonsection WPIAL boys and girls basketball games on the slate Wednesday, but few section contests.
One section matchup is a WPIAL boys basketball Section 1-4A contest as North Catholic hosts Burrell.
The Trojans are alone in second place at 5-1 in the section and 11-4 overall. They trail first-place Knoch by one game.
The 2025 4A runners-up have won five of their last six games.
The visiting Buccaneers are 4-3 in section play and 8-8 overall.
The Bucs had won five in a row before falling to Knoch on Tuesday.
This is the first meeting of the year between the Trojans and the Bucs. They will face each other in Lower Burrell in six more days.
