The Union Trust Building in Downtown has another restaurant opening in the spring.
The Common Good, located on Grant Street, will offer a new casual breakfast, lunch and snack concept designed by Ritual House and Palm Palm Chef Ed Smith and his team.
“The desire and need to have an affordable and quick lunch spot that offers healthy and tasty meals has been overlooked along Grant Street,” said Herky Pollock, president and CEO of Legacy Realty Partners, in a statement.
A year ago, The Davis Companies — a real estate developer headquartered in Boston and the owners of Union Trust Building — approached Legacy Realty Partners about listing the space for the new restaurant.
The company chose the space, which was previously occupied by counter-serve chain Freshii until 2024, because of the location’s dual access points on Grant Street and through the lobby of the building, the news release said.
“The Union Trust Building is a premier, historic asset offering high-quality space, modern infrastructure, and a location that supports long-term growth,” said Steven Kasunich, senior property manager of The Davis Companies, in a statement.
In 2017, The Davis Companies completed an $100 million redevelopment of The Union Trust Building, according to its website.
The building is known for its 11-story atrium, lobby featuring a Tiffany-inspired stained glass dome, Pittsburgh inspired artwork, gold accents and 19,060 square feet of New Zealand wool carpeting.
Pollock called the purchase “extremely bullish” in the news release, citing recent back to work mandates by companies located in the Downtown area.
TribLive previously reported that PNC announced that all employees will be required to return to the office five days a week starting May 4, after the company’s shift to remote and hybrid work since the covid-19 pandemic.
The Union Trust Building currently houses Ritual House, The Speckled Egg PGH, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood and Jimmy John’s.
Under Smith’s Ritual House team The Common Good’s menu will include fresh salads, grain bowls, soups, sandwiches, smoothies and acai bowls and bakery items.
“With Ritual House in the same building as The Common Good, it just makes sense to extend our offerings to a new collection of customers,” Pollock said, in a statement.
Neither Pollack or Kasunich could be reached for immediate comment on Wednesday.
