Pittsburgh International Airport is among the airports next on the list to receive TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.

The new security option will be available in March at the airport’s main security checkpoint, according to Ian Cava, TSA spokesman.

Though there are 12 security lanes overall at Pittsburgh International Airport, it is unclear as of now how many will be devoted to the touchless identification process, Cava said.

The touchless identification option “enhances the security screening process with facial comparison technology for faster, more efficient identity verification,” according to the Transportation Security Administration.

The process happens in dedicated security lanes separate from the usual ones, and it’s currently available at 20 airports across the country, Travel Leisure reported.

Through touchless identification, travelers get a biometric scan taken of their face during airport security — and they don’t need to pull out their driver’s license or passport, the magazine said.

Pittsburgh is one of 45 more airports getting the expanded security measure this spring, TSA said. Any interested passengers must opt-in with participating airlines, which as of now include:

  • Alaska Airlines (ATL, DCA, DEN, JFK, LAS, LAX, ORD, PDX, SEA, SFO, SLC)
  • American Airlines (ATL, CTL, DCA, DEN, DFW, EWR, IAD, IAH, JFK, LAS, LAX, LGA, MSP, ORD, PBI, PDX, PHL, SFO, SEA, SLC)
  • Delta Air Lines (ATL, DCA, DEN, DTW, EWR, JFK, LAS, LAX, LGA, ORD, PDX, SEA, SFO, SLC)
  • Southwest Airlines (ATL, DEN, LAX, LGA, ORD, PDX, SEA, SFO, SLC)
  • United Airlines (ATL, DCA, DEN, EWR, LAS, LAX, LGA, ORD, PDX, SEA, SFO, SLC)

Additionally, passengers must have an active airline profile with the participating airline, be a current TSA PreCheck traveler and have valid passport information uploaded to their airline profile in order to use the touchless identification option, TSA said.

Those interested should add the following information to their airline profile, according to TSA:

  • Enter Known Traveler Number (KTN)
  • Enter valid passport number and country
  • Select “OPT IN” on your profile or at airline check-in: American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines

Once completed, travelers’ boarding passes should indicate TSA PreCheck Touchless ID in order to enter the dedicated lane.
