Mimi Thiero scored 29 points to lead Quaker Valley to a 37-36 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in a spirited battle for second place in Section 1-3A girls basketball Thursday night.

Thiero scored with just under four minutes left to give the Quakers (11-6, 8-2) the lead for good at 31-30. After making two more baskets, Thiero fouled out with Quaker Valley clinging to a 36-33 lead with 1:36 to play.

Keira Watson made a foul shot to make it 37-33. The Chargers went 1 for 4 from the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Lola Garner scored 13 points to lead OLSH (12-5, 6-4).

Aquinas Academy 53, Springdale 8 – Tess Duer scored 20 points, Elliot Keverline had 16 and Carly Bezila added 10 to lead Aquinas Academy (13-2, 9-0) to a Section 1-A win over Springdale (3-13, 2-7).

Beaver Falls 47, Riverside 44 – Taylor Pullen scored 18 points, Dreaven Haskins had 12 and Calasia Cannon added 10 to push Beaver Falls (16-0, 10-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Addison Drake and Emma Meyer scored 13 points apiece for Riverside (12-5, 6-4).

Bentworth 43, Jefferson-Morgan 38 – Bella Moyer scored 15 points and Jesse Laskey added 10 to lead Bentworth (8-9, 3-3) to a Section 3-2A win. Bailey Cervone scored 13 points for Jefferson-Morgan (8-10, 1-5).

Burrell 3, Neshannock 0 – Thomas Kilgour, Jacob Rose and Dom Gladish scored and Seth Munda made 17 saves to lead Burrell (10-4-3) to a shutout win over first-place Neshannock (12-3) in Division 2.

Hempfield 8, Bethel Park 0 – Nino DiPietro scored a hat trick and Evan Saltzgiver made 27 saves to lead Hempfield (14-2) past Bethel Park (9-5-1) in Class 2A. Mats Martz had a goal and two assists, Colby Herron and Nick Crupie added a goal and an assist and Guerin Gardner and Jonathan Holtzman also scored in the win.

Mars 4, Chartiers Valley 3 (OT) – Xavier Bossola had two goals and two assists, including the overtime winner, to lead Mars (13-0-2) in a matchup of the top two teams in Class A Gold. Shay Clark and Alex Frengel also scored and Carter Gallagher made 36 saves in the win. Ryan Viola, Darien Strosnider and Joey Deangelis scored for Chartiers Valley (12-1-3).

North Allegheny 3, Central Catholic 1 – Anthony Lucas and Joey Mitchell each had a goal and an assist and Kyle Imm also scored to send North Allegheny (9-4-3) to a Class 3A win. Matteo Misiti scored for Central Catholic (9-5-2).

Penn-Trafford 4, Baldwin 1 – Anthony Eboli had a goal and an assist, Jacob Kennelly, Max Tamborski and Nico Castelli also scored and Carson Weishorn made 38 saves to lead Penn-Trafford (14-2) to a Class 2A win. Jeremiah Hunt scored and Preston Kossler made 39 saves for Baldwin (4-13-1).

Quaker Valley 5, Blackhawk 1 – Jace Vasbinder scored a hat trick and Charlie Pyle and Kieran Cane each had a goal and an assist to lead Quaker Valley (14-1-1) to a Class A win. Bryce Leiper scored for Blackhawk (11-5).
