Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust will have a disciplinary hearing with the NHL regarding an illegal check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
The date and time of the hearing are to be determined.
Rust struck Boeser late in regulation during a 3-2 road win by the Penguins on Sunday. As a frantic goalmouth scramble unfolded, Rust’s right arm — either his shoulder or elbow — made contact with Boeser’s jaw. As time expired, Boeser fell to the ice in discomfort and eventually retreated to the dressing room, hunched over.

On-ice officials assessed a minor penalty to Rust at 20:00 of the third period.
Rust has never been fined nor suspended over his 12-year career. The NHL considers a player’s punitive history during disciplinary hearings.
Typically deployed on the right wing of the top line as well as both special teams units, Rust is the Penguins’ third-leading scorer this season with 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) in 47 games. He averages 20:07 of ice time per contest.
