The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Rutger McGroarty from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, the team announced Thursday.
In a corresponding move, Jack St. Ivany was placed on injured reserve.
McGroarty, 21, suffered a concussion in practice with the Penguins in early January, landing him on injured reserve. On Jan. 18, he was activated and reassigned to the AHL.
This season, one in which he’s been significantly limited by injuries, McGroarty has appeared in 16 games with the Penguins, scoring two goals and an assist and averaging 12 minutes, 13 seconds of nightly ice time.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, McGroarty has scored four goals with eight assists in nine contests.
St. Ivany’s placement on injured reserve follows surgery on his left hand. Penguins officials said Tuesday he will be sidelined for at least two months.
St. Ivany played 17 games with the Penguins this season, setting a career-high in points (seven assists).
