Bushy Run events

Bushy Run Battlefield in Penn Township will host a speaker on Feb. 21 and its annual Charter Day on March 8.

The speaker, part of the historical site’s regular “History Speaks” series, will discuss how Bushy Run is portrayed in films. The event will be held at 1 p.m. at the museum, 1253 Route 993. Admission is $15 for regular attendees and $10 for those who are members of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society. Popcorn is included in admission.

Charter Day recognizes the day in 1681 when William Penn received a grant of 26 million acres from English King Charles II — land that would become Pennsylvania. Attendees can explore the museum and speak with reenactors about the state’s history.

The event will take place noon to 3 p.m. in the museum and is free to attend. Cake, drinks and snacks will be served.

Galentine’s Day event

The Community Women’s Club of Level Green will host a Galentine’s Day Vendor Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Level Green Fire Hall, 536 Route 130 in Penn Township.

Vendors, raffle baskets and food from Holy Cannoli Food Stand will be available.

Greensburg Civic Theatre show

The Greensburg Civic Theatre will perform “Godspell” from Feb. 6 to 8.

The theater, located at 951 Old Salem Road in Greensburg, is in its 74th season. Show times include 8 p.m. on Feb. 6 and 7 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 8. Tickets cost $15 to $20 when purchased in advance and $18 to $23 at the door. Tickets can be ordered online at gctheatre.org.

Penn Township historical group

A meeting will be held Feb. 19 for Penn Township residents to discuss the possible creation of a local historical society.

The Penn Township Historical Society will focus on preserving, documenting and sharing the municipality’s history for future generations. Attendees are encouraged to bring historical photos, documents or items they are willing to share with the society.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the municipal building, 2001 Municipal Court.

Lego bingo

Penn Area Library will host a bingo event on March 8 at the Trafford Borough building, 414 Brinton Ave. in Trafford.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. and games will start at 2 p.m. Lego sets, valued at about $100, will be awarded to winnters. Tickets are $30 and include all regular games. Admission tickets can be purchased for $10 but do not include any bingo games.

Heating assistance program enrollment

The federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, has opened enrollment for the season, offering one-time cash grants to qualifying applicants to help with home heating bills or emergency repairs.

Households can apply through April 10 or until the funds are depleted.

Journalism scholarship

The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania is accepting applications for its 20th annual Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) and the club’s annual $2,500 scholarship for aspiring journalists.

Deadline for entries is Feb. 9. Winners will be awarded at the club’s annual Golden Quills Awards Dinner.

AARP seeking tax-prep aides

The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to be trained for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest free volunteer-based tax preparation program.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.

The association invites singles aged 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.
