Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was placed on injured reserve due to a fracture in an unspecified foot on Saturday morning.
He is expected to be sidelined a minimum of four weeks.
The team announced the designation via a social media posting.
Letang, 38, was sidelined for two games last week due to an undisclosed injury but skated in each of the team’s past two games.
Typically stationed on the right side of the second pairing, Letang has skated in 50 games this season and scored 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) while averaging 22:06 of ice time per contest.
Letang and forward Evgeni Malkin each missed a practice session on Friday in Cranberry due to injuries. There was no update as to Malkin’s status on Saturday.
