Protesters will gather Sunday and march in Pittsburgh for an anti-ICE demonstration hosted by Indivisible Pittsburgh and a coalition of grassroots partners.
Starting at 2 p.m., the event is titled “Pittsburgh Says ICE Out!” and will “demand that Immigration and Customs Enforcement stop terrorizing our community and other communities across the country,” according to organizers.
The demonstration begins at Three Rivers Heritage park and marches along Hot Metal Bridge Street and the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. It comes in the wake of ICE detainments in Western Pennsylvania.
Most recently, ICE agents detained an Oakmont man, Jose Flores, in front of his 8-year-old daughter.
And Maklim Gomez Escalante, who has a legal work permit, was taken by ICE on Jan. 20 upon arrival at the Magisterial District Court in Baldwin.
“Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents are unleashing violence in our communities — pulling refugees from their homes and breaking down doors without warrants,” the event announcement says. “The American public is outraged by what they see. Constituents are looking to Congress to rein in (the Department of Homeland Security).”
The organizers said Democrats and Republicans in Congress should “rein in ICE” by requiring that they wear body cameras, have judicial warrants for arrests, be unmasked and provide identification.
“Or they can fund the Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2026 to the tune of an additional $400 million more for detention and $370 million more for enforcement, paid for by cuts to health care and nutrition assistance,” the release said. “Congress cannot give DHS more money without meaningful oversight over the agency terrorizing communities..”
Alongside local Pittsburgh activists, organizers, clergy, officials and citizens, Kevin Mosely, retired Pennsylvania State Trooper, Barbara Finch, Sister of St. Joseph of Baden, renowned vocalist, Phat Man Dee, a representative of Casa San Jose will be in attendance.
Organizations participating will include:
Indivisible Pittsburgh, Casa San Jose, local faith leaders, Indivisible Regent Square, Indivisible Black Neighborhoods United, Indivisible Grassroots Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Women for Democracy, Indivisible Forest Hills, Partners for Progress SW PA, Black Political Empowerment Project, 1Hood, Bend the Arc: Jewish Action Pittsburgh, Stand Up for Science, Pittsburgh Healthcare Workers & Scientists, Steel City Stonewall Democrats and local grassroots partners, according to the event announcement.
