There are still a couple of WPIAL playoff berths to be determined Saturday with a handful of boys and girls basketball makeup games set to conclude section play.
• In Section 2-3A, McGuffey can clinch a boys basketball playoff berth with a win at home over Washington.
• In Section 1-A boys basketball, Summit Academy must do double duty. It will play Cornell in a makeup from Friday in the afternoon, and then host Nazareth Prep in the evening. The Knights have already clinched, but Cornell can join them in the postseason with a win over Summit Academy and a Knights’ loss to section champion Nazareth Prep.
• In Section 2-A, the winner of the St. Joseph at Geibel Catholic boys basketball game clinches a playoff berth. The Spartans have a one-game lead over the Gators, but a win would sweep the season series for Geibel Catholic and they would win the tiebreaker.
• In Section 2-4A girls basketball, Hopewell will clinch a playoff berth with a victory over visiting Ambridge.
District gymnastics championships
The 2026 WPIAL gymnastics championships will take place Saturday at Moon.
Defending district champion Thomas Jefferson will be one of the favorites to win gold again after tying North Allegheny for the Section 1 crown.
Central Valley was the Section 2 winner.
NA has won the most gymnastic team championships with 18, but hasn’t claimed gold in 15 years.
Individual champions will be crowned in the overall, vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
