Grab a lead, fall behind and finally rally to win, 72-66.

For Robert Morris, it happened that way earlier in the week, and it happened that way Saturday.

Almost to a tee.

DeSean Goode scored 24 points as the Colonials for the second consecutive game rallied from a second-half deficit and beat Youngstown State, 72-66, at Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

It is the same score as their Wednesday night victory against Horizon League-leading Wright State.

Robert Morris (16-10, 8-7) lost an 11-point lead and trailed by four against Wright State before rallying for a six-point victory at UPMC Events Center.

Against Youngstown State (12-13, 5-9), the Colonials led by 11 at halftime, then trailed by nine before a furious comeback, sparked by Goode’s 13 second-half points, carried them to another six-point victory by the same score.

“It’s nice to see the guys continuing to fight,” Robert Morris coach Andy Toole said on the RMU postgame broadcast. “We ebb and flow. I don’t know if I like that it’s our personality, but we seem to be able to respond so far in some of those moments. We’ve got to continue to try to clean it up. I’m really proud of the effort to come out with a win on the road.”

Ryan Prather Jr. added 16 points for Robert Morris, though the Colonials’ top 3-point shooter was just 1 for 9 from behind the arc and shot 7 for 21 overall.

Darius Livingston, playing in place of injured Albert Vargas, finished with 12 points, and Kaleb Brown scored 10 for Robert Morris, which built a 41-30 halftime lead but went cold for a stretch in the second half.

The Colonials fell behind 54-45 when Rontavious Blackshear hit consecutive 3-pointers for Youngstown State before RMU regrouped and chipped away at the lead.

“We were getting shredded in our man-to-man (defense),” said Toole, who switched to a zone set for a time. “Whatever shot they wanted, they were getting in the second half. We needed to change the pace of the game. The zone did it.”

Goode shot 9 for 11, including 3 for 4 from 3-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds for Robert Morris. Nikolaos Chitikoudis led the Colonials with nine boards.

Robert Morris played without injured 6-foot-11 Josh Hill for a second consecutive game and also lost Vargas, the team’s leading assists man, early in the game with an ankle injury.

Cris Carroll paced Youngstown State with 20 points. Bryson Dawkins scored 16 and Blackshear contributed 12 for the Penguins, who lost to Robert Morris in overtime in their first meeting, 80-77, on Dec. 17 at UPMC Events Center.

In the latest game, a 16-3 Robert Morris run erased Youngstown State’s nine-point advantage. Livingston’s 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 46 seconds remaining gave RMU a 58-57 lead, and Prather’s only make from long range followed for a four-point Colonials advantage.

Youngstown State closed within 64-62 on two free throws by Carter before Goode’s 3-pointer and Prather’s three-point play increased the Robert Morris lead to 70-64 with 18 seconds left.

The victory was the third in a row and fifth in the past seven games for the Colonials, who are idle until a trip to Cleveland State on Thursday.
