Before the games are launched later this week in the 2026 WPIAL basketball playoffs, destinies will be unveiled Monday afternoon with the release of the 12 boys and girls hoops brackets.

The tradition continues with the WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show at 2:10 p.m. on Trib HSSN and all of our social media platforms.

The playoff field consists of 87 boys teams and 81 girls squads ready to compete in the two-week February Frenzy.

The 2026 WPIAL basketball championship games will again take place Feb. 26-28 at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center.

Season finales

While these games have zero bearing on playoff brackets, many district teams will either conclude their season or have one final test run before the playoffs in nonsection games set for Monday.

Looking ahead

There are two high school championship events slated for the next two days.

On Tuesday, the 2026 WPIAL team rifle finals will take place at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg.

Woodland Hills is the defending district champion.

Only three schools have captured WPIAL gold this decade. The Wolverines a year ago, Butler in 2020, 2023 and 2024, and Hempfield won back-to-back in 2021 and 2022.

The district individual championships are Thursday.

On Wednesday, the WPIBL boys high school bowling championships will take place with the girls team finals slated for Thursday.
