Sorority chapter collecting shoes
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter in Penn Hills is collecting gently worn, used and new shoes through Feb. 28 for its Scholarship Shoe Fundraiser.
The fundraiser will help raise money for the chapter’s LaTonya Frazier Overcomer Scholarship while helping small-business owners in developing countries.
The Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter will earn funds from Funds2Orgs for the LaTonya Frazier Overcomer Scholarship based on the total weight of the collected shoes.
Everyone is encouraged to help by clearing out their closets and donating any unwanted or unworn shoes in all styles and sizes.
The shoes will be redistributed throughout Funds2Orgs’ network of microenterprise partners in developing countries.
These micro-entrepreneurs are taught how to create, maintain and grow their businesses in places where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sale of the shoes are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti earned enough to send her son to law school.
By donating, shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
To schedule a drop-off time, email gatz.scholarship@gmail.com.
