Zachary Filous has returned to the Freeport Borough Building.
The small borough’s former manager was appointed to a vacant seat on Freeport Council earlier this month.
The vacancy was the result of former Freeport Council President Rick Fennell vacating his seat last month to take up the borough’s tax collector position.
Filous resigned as Freeport manager last summer after 2½ years, to take up a similar post in Franklin Park. He was the first manager in the borough’s history.
Filous did not respond to multiple TribLive requests for comment.
In August, council hired Tina Ferringer as the borough’s current manager.
She said Filous was appointed in a 3-2 vote by council. Former councilman Robert Barr and resident Tom Showers also expressed interest in the seat, she said.
“He will be a valuable resource,” Ferringer said.
Freeport entered the new year with two vacancies on council and no tax collector.
But after two appointments to council last month, Fennell’s change to tax collector and now Filous’ appointment, the borough is finally fully staffed.
It’s a relief, Ferringer said.
Filous was integral to Freeport’s yearslong sewage treatment plant project during his time as manager, Mayor Matt Crytzer said.
“We’re building to move forward, and I think we’re in good shape to do it,” he said.
Filous will join council members Jay Powell, Sally Riley, Sara Conroy, Kim Barr, Carrie Irvine and Pete Wesolosky.
His term expires at the end of 2027.
