A vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 on Tuesday morning struck a tractor-trailer and caused it to catch fire.

Traffic between the New Stanton-Hunker and Madison exits is heavily restricted as a result.

The collision happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. A car and three semi-trucks were involved, according to the New Stanton Volunteer Fire Department.

The crash resulted in a fuel spill, which led to the fire, the department said.

Pennsylvania State Police said there were no fatalities, but the driver of an SUV was being treated at a nearby hospital, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.

As of about 6:30 a.m., the eastbound lanes were fully closed and only one westbound lane was open as crews worked to remove debris. Traffic is backed up for miles, according to WTAE.

The scene remains “very active,” the dispatcher said.
