Butler junior Jackson Jungling repeated as WPIAL rifle champion Thursday at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club, shooting a perfect 100-10x in the first round and edging out Trinity’s Ryan Walther for the title.
Jungling shot a 100-8x in the second round for a total of 200-18x. That just beat out Walther’s total of 200-17x.
Seven shooters finished with a 200-16x score: Hempfield’s Chloe Snyder and Taylor Miller, Armstrong’s Riley Wasson, Upper St. Clair’s Hayate Svitek, Woodland Hills’ Shamira Pennel, Trinity’s Meredith Ashby and West Greene’s Khyler Davis.
Svitek and Pennel each had perfect 100-10x rounds, as did Bethel Park’s Kaelyn Weber and Trinity’s Grayson Piatt.
The top 16 shooters qualify for states. That list includes McGuffey’s Rylee Fuller and Armstrong’s Molly Hillegass (200-15x), Trinity’s Wesley Shumaker and West Greene’s Dylan Hughes (200-14x), Hempfield’s Abigail Hice and McGuffey’s Dakota Goodman (200-12x) and Avella’s Anna Unger (200-11x).
Jungling became the fourth shooter to win multiple WPIAL titles.
Two repeat champs have accomplished the feat in the last eight years: McGuffey’s Riley Dunn (2022-23) and Waynesburg’s Selena Phillips (2018-19). Avella’s Robbie Gagliani is the only three-time winner (2007-09).
Jungling is Butler’s third WPIAL rifle champ. Kayla Fry won in 2007, and Brandy Thompson won in 2000.
