With four individual champions and 118.5 points, the Saint Vincent wrestling team captured its second Presidents’ Athletic Conference title in three years over the weekend in Hiram, Ohio.
Freshman Logan Connelly (133 pounds), junior Tyler Debnar (141), sophomore Anthony Orlandini (149) and junior Logan Bechtold (165) secured titles to fuel the victory.
Second-place point getters included sophomore Owen Caraccoilo (Hempfield, 133), Ryan Yocum (157), junior Chase Brandebura (174), freshman Chase Stuchel (197) and freshman Jonah McCoy (285).
SVC moves on to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Feb. 27-28 at Ohio Northern.

Women’s bowling
Saint Vincent: SVC reached its highest national ranking last week, taking the No. 4 spot in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Division 2/3 Poll.
More impressively, the Bearcats were No. 20 among all divisions in the top 25. That includes Division I programs.
SVC (37-2) is the only Division III team in the all-divisions poll.
Sophomore Mara Pilyih was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Bowler of the Week.
Pilyih set a program record with an 898 four-game series — 224.5 average — at the American Heartland Bowling Association Roseland Open in Cleveland. She was named tournament MVP, throwing strikes on 54% of her attempts.
Men’s basketball
Pitt-Greensburg: Senior Trent Rozich had a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to power UPG (19-4, 11-3) to an 83-61 victory over Carlow.
Pitt-Johnstown: Junior Adam Bilinsky (Norwin) had 20 points, four assists and three steals, making 7 of 14 shots, in an 88-82 loss to IUP.
Saint Vincent: The Bearcats moved into first place in the PAC South with their eighth straight win, 75-66 over Washington & Jefferson.
Senior guard Mike Iuzzolino had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, senior Dev Ostrowski added 15 points and freshman Jaden Payne scored 14 and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win. Junior Jevontae Jones delivered a highlight dunk for SVC late in the first half.
Ostrowski scored 22, and Gales went for 19 and nine rebounds as the Bearcats (16-7, 11-3) rallied from a halftime deficit to top Hiram, 86-69, on senior day.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore sixth man Cam Rowell (Franklin Regional) scored 12 points as the Presidents (17-6, 10-4 PAC) took down Thiel, 80-67.
Women’s basketball
Cal (Pa.): Sophomore guard Mya Morgan (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored a season-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench, but the Vulcans fell to Seton Hill, 111-87.
Morgan followed with 13 points and four rebounds, making three 3-pointers, in a 101-94 victory over Clarion.
Chatham: Senior Alyssa Laukus (Norwin) had 10 points and three rebounds as the Cougars (16-7, 9-5 PAC) routed Geneva, 77-58.
Millersville: Freshman Carley Berk (Latrobe) has played in 23 games, with 13 starts, is her team’s second-leading scorer at 8.8 points and is third in minutes at 24.0. Berk scored in double figures in five straight games, including a career-high 18 against Mansfield.
Saint Vincent: A 77-74 victory in overtime against visiting Washington & Jefferson pushed the Bearcats into a tie for first place in the PAC South. Sophomore Brooke Evans scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for SVC, while junior Danielle Pontius (15 points), senior Camdon Bashor (14) and senior Makenna Maier (14) also scored in double figures.
Maier followed up with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Bashor had 14 points (7 for 8 FG) and six rebounds for the Bearcats (17-6, 12-2) in a 74-58 win over Hiram.
Seton Hill: Junior Mia Kalich notched her third triple-double of the season with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals, and sophomore Shaye Bailey had a career-high 21 points and five blocks as the Griffins (16-5, 12-3) clinched a PSAC playoff spot with a 111-87 win over Cal (Pa.). Senior Helene Cowan added 20 points and eight assists, and senior Hallie Cowan had 17 points.
Kalich has a combined 53 points, 35 rebounds and 30 steals in her three triple-double games. She was named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week.
USC Upstate: Redshirt sophomore Emma Blair (Latrobe) has played in all 25 games and is averaging 4.1 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.
Wrestling
Pitt: Redshirt junior Dayton Pitzer (Mt. Pleasant), ranked No. 15 at heavyweight, recorded a pin, and redshirt junior Chase Kranitz (Norwin) added a decision win at 184 pounds, as the 12th-ranked Panthers fell to No. 23 Stanford, 21-12.
Pitt-Johnstown: Fourth-ranked heavyweight Isaiah Vance (Hempfield) didn’t disappoint in senior night, pinning his opponent in 2:14 in the final bout of match as No. 5 UPJ defeated Frostburg State, 38-11.
Men’s volleyball
Chatham: Junior 6-foot-6 hitter Tim McCabe (Norwin) posted a career-high 19 kills and 10 digs as the Cougars rallied for a 3-2 victory over Geneva.
Grove City: Sophomore Keith Otto (Penn-Trafford) posted a team-high 10 digs, junior Carson Good (Penn-Trafford) had eight kills and junior Andrew Kessler (Penn-Trafford) added four blocks as the Wolverines (7-6) swept Mount Aloysius, 25-6, 25-22 and 25-18.
Saint Vincent: Senior Shawn McSwiggen produced 12 kills and four aces, and senior Zebadiah Wyant had 10 kills and four aces to power SVC (5-2, 1-0) to a 3-0 victory over Bethany in the PAC opener. Freshman Jack Ryan registered 32 assists in the victory. Ryan was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Men’s track & field
Grove City: Freshman Adam Frankhauser (Hempfield) finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.29 seconds at the Youngstown State Last Chance Meet.
Seton Hill: Junior Jacy Willis was named the PSAC West Co-Athlete of the Week after he set a PSAC record in the 400-meter dash at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet with a time of 47.09 seconds.
Women’s track & field
Westminster: Sophomore Grace Iwig (Hempfield) took eighth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 10.75 inches, and was 11th in the high jump (5-1.25) at the Youngstown State Last Chance meet.
Women’s volleyball
Seton Hill: Cassidy Snider has big shoes to fill, but she appears ready for the challenge.
Snider was named the new head coach of the Griffins, replacing veteran coach Rick Hall, who retired after 41 years and more than 800 wins. Snider, a former standout at Clarion, was an assistant at IUP last season.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity,” Snider said. “I am excited to carry on the culture while striving to continue to compete amongst the top teams in the PSAC. From day one, it’s been clear how much the players and staff care about this program, and I’m eager to get to work.”
Snider was a two-time PSAC West Athlete of the Year and was twice named Atlantic Region Player of the Year, as well as earning All-American honors in her junior and senior seasons.
A Conneaut Area grad, she holds Clarion records for career kills (2,033), kills per set (4.62) and points (2,249.5).
Men’s lacrosse
Saint Vincent: The Bearcats opened the season with a 28-2 victory over Thiel as sophomore Connor Smith scored six goals and added two assists. Senior Jonathan Nagy added four goals and one assist, and senior Max Radcliffe scored three goals.
The Bearcats’ Liam McCall, a senior attacker, was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore long-stick midfielder Isaiah Francis was named PAC Specialist of the Week. McCall picked up 12 points over two wins, scoring seven goals and adding five assists, while Francis had 13 ground balls, caused four turnovers and had an assists over two games.
Seton Hill: Senior goalkeeper Will Cody was named the GMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. Cody made 12 saves in the Griffins’ 11-7 victory over No. 10 Lewis.
Baseball
Pitt-Greensburg: Senior outfielder James Domer was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Player of the Year, while junior Conner Burkey (Hempfield) was tabbed the AMCC preseason pitcher of the year.
Domer tied for the national lead in batting average (.496) and led the Bobcats in doubles (11), home runs (8), total bases (110), slugging (.815) and on-base percentage (.554). He was an all-region first teamer and earned All-America honors.
Burkey, the reigning AMCC pitcher of the year, tied for the Division III lead with eight complete games. He was 8-1 with a 2.86 ERA and 61 strikeouts and 16 walks in 69 1/3 innings.
UPG is second in the AMCC preseason poll after a 16-19 season (10-4 AMCC). Senior third baseman Tommy Smith (.432, 7 HR, 45 RBIs) also returns.
Seton Hill: The Griffins opened the season with a 19-hit output in Wingate, N.C. Seton Hill launched four home runs, four doubles and a triple in an 18-11 slugfest against Findlay.
Senior Jack Whalen (Norwin) went 4 for 6 with a double, triple and two RBIs, sophomore Brady McGuire doubled, homered and drove in four, and junior Jakob Haynes (Penn-Trafford) hit two homers and had four RBIs for the Griffins, who are ranked No. 20 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Preseason Poll. The Griffins are No. 2 in the NCBWA Atlantic Region Preseason Poll.
Whalen had four hits, and Mason Metz and Haynes homered in a 12-2 win and two-game sweep of Findlay.
Softball
Bowling Green: The Falcons (6-1) trailed by three runs in the bottom of the seventh before rallying past Lipscomb on a game-winning sacrifice fly by senior designated hitter Katie Hutter (Mt. Pleasant). Hutter launched a deep drive to the warning track with the bases loaded to knock in the winning run in a 9-8 victory.
Ohio: Freshman infielder Allie Cervola (Hempfield) went 2 for 3 with a run in a 10-2 win over Saint Francis. Through five games, all starts, Cervola was hitting .333 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Penn: Sophomore outfielder Peyton Heisler (Hempfield) had two RBIs in the season opener against West Carolina, a 13-3 loss in five innings.
Robert Morris: Redshirt senior Courtney Poulich (Mt. Pleasant) went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run as the Colonials dispatched of Le Moyne, 12-4.
South Florida: Freshman outfielder Toryn Fulton (Franklin Regional) is adapting quickly to college softball. She has started all six games for the Bulls. She is hitting .267 with two home runs and six RBIs.
