After the first game of qualifying Wednesday at AMF Mt. Lebanon, Seton LaSalle junior Brody Dilla rolled a 180 and was tied for 44th place.

He didn’t stay in that part of the leaderboard for long.

Dilla broke 200 in each of the next four games he bowled, defeating New Caste’s Iziah Naugle in the finals, 235-168, to win the WPIBL boys singles championship.

After opening with a 180, Dilla threw games of 225 and 258 to end up second in qualifying with a 663 series, trailing only Naugle, who rolled a 681 series with a 265 high game.

Valley’s Baxter Diehm (661), Serra Catholic’s Preston Smith (659), New Castle’s Jeffrey Natale (655) and Connellsville’s Toby Soltis (622) rounded out the top six bowlers who reached the stepladder finals.

Soltis had the high game of the day with a 269 in qualifying.

In the quarterfinals, Smith defeated Natale, 168-133, and Diehm got past Soltis, 195-192.

In the semifinals, Naugle beat Smith, 191-179, and Dilla topped Diehm, 203-189.

The top 40 bowlers advanced to regionals.

The WPIBL girls singles championships are scheduled for Thursday at AMF Mt. Lebanon.
