The following are two statements from the 2025 Allegheny Jail correctional officer survey:

“Our female officers are not at all protected. From the moment they step in the door (as a new worker mostly and current) they are sexually harassed, asked to perform sexual acts or favors to work in a better position in the jail. Our women are found on social media and sent nude pics. Our women do not report these things due to, the people also harassing is our leaders (Srgts. And Captains).”

“If you are one of their own, i.e., a kiss-(expletive), soft spoken or an attractive female that staff administration is interested in or currently receiving sexual favors, sexual photos, sexual text messages and or emails.”

The job of correctional officers is one of the most stressful jobs in the country. How does this make female officers feel if they are sent sexually explicit photos and emails, harassed, knowing they are being targeted?

How does this make female officers feel who choose not to participate in this quid pro quo relationship to know their advancement at the jail for more privileged positions or to be an administrator is being blocked by these quid pro quo relationships?

Classical reactive processes of expecting female officers to come forward and make a complaint are unrealistic.

The warden needs to be directly involved, asserting his authority over the alleged perpetrators who could be in his administration.
