Scott Library celebrates birthday
The Scott Township Public Library is turning 25 this year and is planning events to celebrate.
A Library Birthday Celebration is scheduled March 26 at the library, 301 Lindsay Road, Scott. A birthday open house with light refreshments is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From 5 to 7 p.m., a family birthday party will be held with games and activities for children ages 3 to 12. Registration is required for both at scottlibrary.org.
The Spring Vendor Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 28 at the library. The event is free. Raffles will be offered, and vendors will be on-site.
A trivia night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. April 24 at the Scott Township Community Room in Scott Park, 1 Park Drive. Tickets cost $15 before March 31 and $20 after or at the door. Light refreshments will be served, outside food and drink are welcome. The event is intended for adults only. Tickets can be purchased at the library.
The Friends of Scott Township Public Library organization will host its spring book sale April 31 to May 3. A variety of used books, games, puzzles, DVDs and CDs will be for sale. Proceeds support the library.
A $5 bag day will be held Sunday, and various flash sales will be available all three days. Payment is by cash or check only.
From 5 to 7 p.m. on April 31, the Friends of the Library will host a members-only night. Times for the book sale are noon to 4 p.m. on May 1; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 2; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. om May 3.
CV board meeting
The March 10 Chartiers Valley School Board meeting will be held at the Parkway West Career and Technology Center.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Old St. Luke’s concert series
The concert series is back at Old St. Luke’s Church in Scott.
Remaining concerts include: March 22, Academy String Quartet “Domestic and Imported Lyricism”; April 26, Trio Sine Nomine; and May 3, Taburaški Sastav Ponoć America’s Premier Tambura Band.
Concerts begin at 2 p.m. and are held at the church, 330 Old Washington Pike, Scott.
The suggested donation is $20.

Spring craft show
Collier Parks and Recreation is looking for vendors for its spring craft show.
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at the community center, 5 Lobaugh St.

Admission to the event is free.
Easter Bunny breakfast
An Easter Bunny breakfast will be held from 10 a.m. to noon March 29 at the Collier Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St.
The event includes a hot breakfast, egg hunt, crafts and pictures with the Easter Bunny.
People can register by calling 724-693-0780. Registration is $10 per member or $12 per non-member. Children 3 and younger are free. Register by March 27.
Carlynton personnel
Carlynton School Board awarded long-term substitute positions to Hannah Roadway and Brenda Tantano. Amaleen Malcolm was hired as an elementary computer technology teacher.
Other hirings include Rena Taylor, attendance/security secretary at the high school; JoLynn Dougherty, in-school suspension aide at Crafton; and Dorrett Veneer, Crafton custodian. The board also approved shift transfers for custodians David Kaercher, Jackie Gamble and Ronnie Boling; Jane Corral to attendance/security secretary at the high school; Amanda Hughes, high school instructional aide; and Donald Weisal, ESL aide at the high school.
The board approved a letter of intent to retire from Laura Begg, and the retirements of Carol Rust, Carnegie instructional aide; Pamela Quinlan, life skills/autistic support at the high school; Chris Trombetta, instructional aide at the high school; and Lori Arrington, payroll specialist.
Carlynton coaches hired
Carlynton School Board approved the following coaching or advising positions:
Nick Carmassi, assistant varsity baseball; Caroline Repola, musical/play producer; John Tortorea, head varsity football; Joey Feola, head varsity boys soccer; John Sciulli, head jr. high football; Stanley Lacek, head seventh and eighth grade boys soccer; Amaleen Malcolm, head volleyball; Danielle Luzaszewicz, seventh and eighth grade girls soccer; Eric Shafer, varsity cross country; and Rebecca Braithwaite and Frank Deutsch, seventh and eighth grade girls basketball. The board approved resignations from Laura Begg, senior high student council; Nate Milson, track coach; Holly Burnett, Crafton in-school suspension aide and Carol Rust, Crafton receptionist and secretary lunch and breaks position.
Act 1 index
Carlynton will not raise school taxes higher than its state-imposed limit next school year.
The school board Jan. 20 approved its annual Act 1 resolution, which certifies the district will not raise taxes higher than 4.4%.
Donations
Robert Morris University’s Education Club donated school supplies to Carnegie Elementary teachers Allison Fekety and Lisa Price for their classrooms.
PNC Bank donated $300 worth of school supplies to a teacher at Crafton Elementary.
Over winter break, Carnegie teacher Jaylynn Leslie created a fully funded, online donation project for her classroom. The project raised $167. Items received include writing and drawing supplies, board games and more.
The school board approved the donations Jan. 20.
Gymnast
Mi’Kaylia Kuzma will represent Carlynton by competing as an independent gymnast in the WPIAL.
Mi’Kaylia will be trained and directed by Christine Gulakowski’s All-Star Athletics and Gymnastics.
Purse bingo
South West Meals on Wheels will hold its annual purse bingo at 1 p.m. March 15, at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St.

Bridgeville police donation
Bridgeville police Chief Gary James delivered a $410 check to the South West Meals on Wheels.
The donation was an annual, “No Shave November and December” charitable effort of the Bridgeville police department.
South West Meals On Wheels is a meal delivery and household check-up program that supplies meals to seniors. It operates out of 760 McMillen St. in Bridgeville and serves the communities of Bridgeville, Cecil, Clinton, Collier, Crafton, Dormont, Green Tree, Heidelberg, Imperial and Beechview.
Scott planning commission
Mark Mox was appointed to Scott’s planning commission for a term that expires Jan. 27, 2030.
Collier coffee
Collier Manager George Macino will host quarterly coffee hours at the community center, 5 Lobaugh St.
The remaining dates for the year are May 20, Aug. 19 and Nov. 18. They begin at 9:30 a.m.

Historical Society presentations
Todd DePastino will present “Whiskey Rebellion: A massive armed uprising that included Pittsburgh,” as part of the Bridgeville Area Historical Society speaker series at 7:30 p.m. March 31.

Ukrainian Pysanky/Easter Egg sale
The parish of St. Peter and St. Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 220 Mansfield Blvd., Carnegie, will host its annual Ukrainian Easter Egg Sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 29.
The event will feature more than 1,200 Pysanky (Easter eggs), goose and ostrich eggs, hand-painted wooden eggs, crafts from Ukraine, basket raffles, door prizes, a bake sale and more.
The church kitchen will serve a variety of Ukrainian foods. Church tours and a talk with Father John Charest at noon, 1 and 2 p.m.

Ukrainian Easter egg workshop
The Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 220 Mansfield Blvd., Carnegie, will host a lesson on the traditional art of Ukrainian Pysanky and Easter eggs.
The class is scheduled March 21. The first session runs from 9 a.m. to noon; the second session is from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Participants in the general class will learn how to make a traditional Ukrainian Easter Egg using beeswax and dyes. It is open to anyone 8 or older.
Participants in the advanced class will learn to make an “etched” Ukrainian egg. Knowledge of making traditional Ukrainian eggs is required. That class is open to 13-year-olds and older.
The fee is $30.

Youth Irish football
A youth Irish football program is coming to Collier.
Children ages 8 to 16 can register for a session to learn how to play Irish football.

Registration is free. Participants should bring a water bottle.

Collier Parks and Recreation has released its summer concert series schedule.

Scott Township is seeking vendors for its Evening Market in the Park.
The market series runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning May 6 and ending Sept. 2. It is held at Scott Township Park, 1 Park Drive.

Bridgeville Easter egg hunt
The Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department and the borough will host their annual Easter egg hunt March 28 at the fire department, 370 Commercial St.
The egg hunt begins at 11 a.m.
People should bring their own container to collect eggs. The event is free.
Trivia night
The Bridgeville-South Fayette Rotary Club will host its Trivia Night fundraiser April 11.

Scott’s Easter Bunny breakfast
A breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be held March 28 at Scott Park’s Community Room, 1 Park Drive.

National Technical Honor Society
Five Chartiers Valley High School seniors were recognized into the Parkway West Career and Technology Center’s National Technical Honor Society, the honor society for career and technical education.
Students include seniors Payton Bateman and Sophia Trosky, and new inductees Rylee Burrell, Jacob Fabus and Jaclyn Pegher.
The National Technical Honor Society recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership and dedication in career and technical education fields.
College Club of Carnegie
The College Club of Carnegie welcomes members and guests to enjoy its “Hello Spring”-themed meeting on March 7, at the Olive Garden restaurant, 971 Greentree Road, Green Tree.
There will be a social at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to follow. A 50-50 raffle will be offered to benefit the scholarship program.
The event will feature local artist, Eva Trout, of FIREBOX Art Studio/Art Gallery of Carnegie, who will show and discuss her work.
