Project Prom Shop opens in March

Allegheny County will hold its annual Project Prom event on March 14, 17, 19 and 21 at the Project Prom Shop, 10700 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills.

Through the generosity of donations and participating retailers, Project Prom has hundreds of new and gently used gowns, accessories and tuxedos — all free for eligible high school students who will be attending prom.

Participating high school students must live in Allegheny County and be receiving services from the Department of Human Services or qualify for a free or reduced school lunch. A student also is eligible if a household member is on active military duty or a veteran.

Guests must register in advance for an available 30-minute timeslot and are asked to bring only one friend or family member to accompany them.

Career center plans open house

Forbes Road Career & Technology Center is hosting a Spring Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. March 12.

Family and friends of current and prospective students are welcome to attend.

The open house offers a chance to explore the center’s 18 programs of study, tour the campus, ask questions and meet faculty and staff members.

Forbes Road Career & Technology Center serves students in the Allegheny Valley, East Allegheny, Gateway, Highlands, Penn Hills, Plum, Riverview, Wilkinsburg and Woodland Hills school districts.

Cash bash to benefit animal sanctuary

The White Oak Athletic Association will host an April 18 fundraiser for the Gray Paws Sanctuary, which provides quality care to abandoned senior dogs.

It will be from 6 to 10 p.m. April 18 at the association, 1798 Lower Heckman Road in White Oak.

The cost is $25, and there will be cash drawings every 15 minutes. Admission includes dinner, snacks and beverages. The evening also will include auction baskets, a 50-50 drawing and more.

Registration open for kindergarten

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year is underway in the Gateway School District.

Children must be 5 on or before Aug. 31 to enroll. Online enrollment can be completed on the district’s website at gatewayk12.org/resources/parent-resources/registration, which includes a list of required documents.

School organizing Irish-themed trivia fundraiser

Divine Mercy Academy, 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville, is hosting an Irish-themed Trivia Night on March 7 at the Lourdes Center.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and trivia will start at 7.

This is a 21 and older BYOB event. Tickets are $25 each and includes two drink tickets and a Philly Pretzels and Nacho Bar. A $500 cash prize will go to the winning team. There also will be a 50-50, raffles and side games.

Tickets available for Night at the Races

The Turtle Creek Rotary Club is hosting a Night at the Races on March 28 at the Level Green Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will start at 6 p.m., followed by the races at 7.

Admission is $20 and includes a buffet dinner, beer, soft drinks and desserts. BYOB is permitted. Horses are an additional $10 each.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit Rotary, school

The Rotary Club of Monroeville and Divine Mercy Academy are hosting a community spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. March 14 at the Lourdes Center, 245 Azalea Drive.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children. Meals include spaghetti and meatballs, rolls, side salad and soft drinks.

The event supports Monroeville Rotary Youth Services and the Divine Mercy Academy PTA. Participation helps invest in local youth programs and education.

3 Rivers Psychic Fair set for March 14-15

The 3 Rivers Psychic Fair, featuring more than 55 vendors, returns from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14-15 at Comfort Inn, 699 Rodi Road, Penn Hills.

Workshops will be available on a variety of topics, including manifesting, authenticity, feminine rising, group psychic medium readings and telepathy.

The 3 Rivers Psychic Fair takes place three times a year in and around the city of Pittsburgh. The next events are scheduled for July 25 and Oct. 17-18. The fair offers psychic, intuitive and medium readings, as well as Reiki and energy healers and holistic products.

The mission of the fair is to connect, heal and educate. It aims to help people expand their minds, learn about their bodies and kindle their inner flames.

County seeks lifeguards for parks

Allegheny County Parks is hiring lifeguards.

The county has four pool facilities: North Park swimming pool in McCandless and the wave pools in Boyce Park in Monroeville, South Park in Bethel Park and Settlers Cabin Park in Robinson.

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring safe swimming conditions in and around the pool areas, and creating a fun and positive atmosphere for all guests.

The pay is $16 to $18 per hour and successful candidates must satisfy the following criteria:

Ages 15 and older;

Complete all required lifeguard employment forms;

Possess a current lifeguard certification and be able to pass an aquatics test;

Work the entire swimming season, including flexible hours, weekends and holidays.

Successful candidates must successfully pass background checks as required for the position.
