Local news is evolving in Pittsburgh. As outlets close, reinvent themselves or scale back, the real question isn’t just what comes next — it’s what local journalism can and should look like for readers in the region.
Public Source is hosting “You Have the Floor” series of town halls held across the Pittsburgh region, designed to hear directly from residents.
These town halls are designed to be simple and open — just people talking about the information they need, what feels overlooked and how journalism can better serve the public.
Here are the locations:
- Beechview: 3 to 4:30 p.m. on March 12 at the Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation
- McKeesport: 6 to 7:30 p.m. on March 13 at the Carnegie Library of McKeesport
- Virtual: 10 to 11:15 a.m. on March 14 on Zoom
- Bellevue: Noon to 1:30 p.m. on March 15 at Tavern Pizza
- East Liberty: 11:30 a.m. on March 16 at Catapult Greater Pittsburgh
- Carnegie: 5:30 to 7 p.m. on March 17 at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library
- Oakmont: 5 to 6:30 p.m. on March 18 at Local Remedy Brewing
What to expect
You’ll be invited to respond to questions such as:
- What’s something happening in your community that more people should understand?
- When have you felt confused about local information?
- What feels overlooked?
- What would help you better understand what’s happening around you?
- If local journalism worked perfectly for you, what would it do?
Who will attend?
Anyone who cares about news coverage in the region is invited to attend.
Journalists and others who work in media are invited to attend as neighbors and listeners. If you’re in the media, please indicate that when you register.
