The starting five from Franklin Regional’s PIAA boys basketball runner-up team from 2023-24 merged directly into college basketball.
All five are playing this season at the NCAA Division III level.
Here is a look at where they are now and how they are doing:
Cam Rowell, So., G, Washington & Jefferson – The 6-foot-4 energetic scorer has developed into one the top sixth men in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. The returning PAC Newcomer of the Year is averaging 7.9 points and 3.3 rebounds over 19.3 minutes per game for the Presidents (17-6), who earned the top seed in the PAC playoffs.
Rowell has scored in double figures six times, including three 15-point games. He played a season-high 26 minutes against Bethany.
Cooper Rankin, So., G, La Roche – A starter in 22 of the team’s first 24 games, Rankin brought his up-tempo style and smooth-going demeanor to the Redhawks (13-12, 12-4 PAC). He had scored in double figures 15 times, including 21 points against Pitt-Greensburg and 20 against Mount Aloysius.
His 30.9 minutes-per-game average ranked third on the team, and he was first with 3.8 assists.
Fin Hutchison, So., G, Mount Aloysius – A run-sparking 3-point shooter at Franklin Regional, Hutchison found a new home this season when he left Seton Hill after his freshman season.
Mount Aloysius is having a down season (4-21, 2-14), but Hutchison has contributed to the backcourt with nine starts and playing time in 23 games. He was averaging 5.7 points in 17.9 minutes and was second on the team with 24 3-pointers. He made 26 of 30 free throws for 86.7%.
Hutchison and Rankin went against each other earlier this month when La Roche won 78-69 in Cresson.
Colin Masten, So., Saint Vincent – After a start-up year at Westmoreland County Community College, Masten transferred to Saint Vincent to play for coach D.P. Harris. Masten was averaging 7.0 minutes off the bench and had 42 points in 22 games.
He scored nine against John Carroll.
Conner Crossey, Fr., Saint Vincent – A junior playing with seniors when the Panthers made their thrilling run two years ago, Crossey moved on to Saint Vincent.
The combo guard is waiting to make his mark with the Bearcats. He had three appearances and was looking for his first point.
