Oneil Cruz continued his hot streak at the plate in Grapefruit League play, hitting his first home run of spring training.

Cruz extended his hitting streak to five games by blasting a three-run homer to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-2 win over the Houston Astros at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach.

The game was called because of rain in the sixth inning.

Cruz, who went 1 for 3 while hitting leadoff and playing center field, is batting .538 (7 for 13) with a 1.446 OPS. Designated hitter Marcell Ozuna recorded his first multi-hit game, going 2 for 3.

Mike Burrows had four strikeouts while allowing one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings against his former team. The right-hander was traded to the Astros in the three-team deal that brought a return of two-time All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe, outfielder Jake Mangum and left-handed reliever Mason Montgomery to the Pirates from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Braxton Ashcraft started and held the Astros scoreless through three innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in throwing 23 of his 38 pitches for strikes.

Bubba Chandler got the win, despite giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Chandler replaced Ashcraft in the fourth but walked Carlos Correa and Christian Walker, then surrendered a single to Cam Smith to load the bases. After a strikeout and a pop up, Brice Matthews drove in Correa on a single to third base to give Houston a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates responded in the fifth, when Billy Cook drew a one-out walk and advanced to third when Alika Williams grounded into a forceout. Cruz sent Jayden Murray’s 1-0 changeup 368 feet to right field at an exit velocity of 106.4 mph to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead.

The Astros answered when Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer to left-center off Chandler to cut it to 3-2. Nick Yorke reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jeremy Pena, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Michael Knorr and scored on an RBI single by Cook for a 4-2 lead in the sixth. Williams singled to left to drive in Cook to make it 5-2.

Derek Diamond earned the save for the Pirates.

Note: Left-hander Hunter Barco is expected to start for the Pirates against Kyle Leahy and the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. Sunday in Jupiter.
