That it didn’t look or feel much like winter on Saturday was a boon for the fifth annual Saxonburg Winter Festival.

Brilliantly sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s helped draw the best crowd The Little Shops of Saxonburg had yet for its food and vendor fair, according to Nancy Alberth-Johnston.

Owner of Red Door Antiques, Alberth-Johnston is co-leader of a small group of women businessowners that have held the festival on the last Saturday of February.

“People are ready to get out by the end of February,” she said. “It’s always a great event to unite the community.”

There were 53 vendors set up on West Main Street, from North Rebecca to Pittsburgh streets. Borough businesses were also open.

“This is a big event for all of us,” Alberth-Johnston said. “It helps all the businesses thrive.”

The weather, of course, was “awesome,” Alberth-Johnston said.

“It’s a warm day and even more people are out because of it,” she said.
