New EPs, albums and singles are on the way in March from a wide-ranging group of Pittsburgh area musicians.
Here’s a quick look at those new local releases scheduled for the Pittsburgh region in March:
Cello
Genre-blurring singer-songwriter Cello will release a new album, “Singing to Serpents,” on March 1.
The album blurs “the lines between music, spoken word and emotional storytelling. Drawing inspiration from personal mythology and life’s most vulnerable moments, the album invites listeners into a sonic landscape where each song serves as both confession and catharsis.”
Cello will hold a free album release show on March 12 at Spirit Lodge in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood.
Chet Vincent & the Music Industry
Pittsburgh rock ‘n’ roll band Chet Vincent & the Music Industry will release their second album, “Static on the Radio,” on March 6.
Described as being “for fans of George Harrison’s soul, Neil Young’s dirt, Gram Parsons’ country and Tom Petty’s jangle,” the band said the new release is a direct follow-up to their 2023 debut album, “Young Leaves.”
They’ll play an album release show, with a live album recording, on March 28 at the Sanctuary at Mr. Smalls, with Clinton Clegg (of The Commonheart) opening, alongside some special guests.
Pat Kelly
Singer-songwriter, guitarist and drummer Pat Kelly’s latest album, “Hook,” is his fifth album and the first in five years, set for a March 6 release and an album release show that night at Club Cafe on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Kelly said his “compact, darkly funny songs bring to mind, at once, the ramshackle charm of Michael Hurley and Stephen Malkmus’ circuitous pop sensibility. ‘Hook’ … delivers a set of folk-rock songs that explore self-doubt, delusional ambition, anger and nostalgia, with unforced, world-weary wit.”
BBGuns and Beauty Slap
Indie hip-hop duo BBGuns collaborated with electro jazz hip-hop band Beauty Slap for a new single, “The Fruit,” dropping on March 6.
Described as a “a fun track that comes off as an homage simultaneously to Digable Planets and The Happy Mondays, the overlapping area of the Venn diagram between the two finds them moving like ‘a couple beatniks at the freaknik.’”
Right on Warriors
Pittsburgh’s Right on Warriors are celebrating the orange vinyl release of their latest album, “Still Standing,” with a March 7 show at Poetry Lounge in Millvale.
“Recorded at Mr. Smalls Sanctuary and pressed at Hellbender Vinyl, it showcases the band’s influences of ’80s and ’90s punk and rock, fusing sing-along choruses, driving guitars, punk energy and melodic solos,” according to the band.
The album, which features the single “Michelle Wants To Rebel,” is available on all streaming platforms.
The Anton DeFade Quintet
The Anton DeFade Quintet, led by The Commonheart bassist, will release a new single, “Gaijin,” on March 12.
“This song is a love letter to my ever-present imposter syndrome,” DeFade said. “Gaijin is the Japanese word for ‘foreigner’ or ‘outsider.’ I constantly find myself in new and wildly different musical environments (and I love that so much), but I can’t always shake feeling like an ‘outsider.’”
The group will perform a release show on March 12 at Alphabet City at City of Asylum on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
Gary Pratt
Country singer Gary Pratt has a new single, “Buzzin’,” set to drop on March 13. The song was co-written by national country artist Jon Pardi, as well as Kenneth Johnson and Bart Butler.
The song is described a “vibrant, feel-good country sound that captures the electric rush of living in the moment and celebrating life’s best memories.”
Fighting Spirit
Punk band Fighting Spirit will release their new EP, “Total Letdown,” which features three songs.
They’ll play a release show on March 14 at the Government Center on Pittsburgh’s North Side. They’ll be joined by Grybus and 95.2 WATW.
Sad Bulldog
Indie rockers Sad Bulldog will release a self-titled EP on March 20, featuring the latest single, “Barley Breath.”
Self-recorded in their home basement studio, “these 5 tracks give you a little bit of everything the Bulldog has to offer. Woof woof hope you like riffs,” according to the band.
The band will play a release show on March 28 at Brillobox in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, with M.E.L.T. and Clear Creek SP also on the bill.
AurallaurA
Jazz/world music performer Laura Chu Wiens, also known as AurallaurA, will release her sophomore album, “The Critique of Capital: An Engaging Revue,” on
“It’s a musical revue,” Wiens said of the album. “I don’t think we could tell the story of our political moment with just one genre, and I find typical leftist music too dirge-y and didactic. So we have jazz, Latin, some indie folk, rock, even something like a show tune.”
AurallaurA will launch the album with a show on March 26 at Alphabet City at City of Asylum.
Dust and Grace
Rooted in country traditions, Dust and Grace — a Pittsburgh-based project featuring Michael Stover’s songwriting — will release its self-titled album on March 23. It includes the latest single, “Trailer Park Paradise.”
“At its heart, the song is more than a clever country novelty,” Stover said. “It’s a reminder that the best things in life — sunshine, moonlight and the right person by your side — don’t cost a dime. With playful imagery of pink flamingos, picnic-table buffets, and music floating through humid July air, ‘Trailer Park Paradise’ captures the warmth of simple pleasures and the enduring spirit of small-town America.”
Microwaves
Veteran noise rockers Microwaves are set to release their latest album, “Temporal Shifter,” on March 27.
According to drummer John Roman, the band pulls from a wide range of influences: “everything from classic rock to classical, rap music, punk, avant-this and that, science fiction, paleontology and advertising and design.”
Microwaves will play an album release show on March 27 at Brillobox, with Spotlights performing “Tidals” in its entirety, as well as a set from Love Ethic.
