The PIAA released the qualifier lists, with alternates, in each Class 3A and Class 2A event for the swimming and diving championships March 11-14 at Bucknell.

A minor technical issue forced the PIAA to delay the posting of the Class 3A girls until Monday afternoon.

A number of those swimmers, divers and relays who captured WPIAL gold at North Allegheny on Feb. 20-21 and at Pitt’s Trees Pool last week are No. 1 seeds.

The Class 3A meet will be March 11-12 followed by Class 2A on March 13-14.

The North Allegheny 200-yard medley relay (1:31.12), Mars sophomore Dom Davis (50 freestyle, 20.26), Upper St. Clair senior Nazar Zoukovski (100 free, 44.82), the North Allegheny 200 free relay (1:22.73), Latrobe senior Chris Heese (100 breaststroke, 54.49) and the North Allegheny 400 free relay (3:06.15) are top seeds in boys Class 3A.

The No. 1 seeds from the WPIAL in girls Class 3A are North Allegheny senior Claire Bacu (200 free, 1:50.13 and 500 free, 4:54.88), Fox Chapel freshman Ellie Lange (200 individual medley, 2:03.33), the North Allegheny 200 free relay (1:35.49), Fox Chapel freshman Delaney O’Toole (100 backstroke, 54.13) and the Fox Chapel 400 free relay (3:27.38).

Northgate senior Sam Cavanaugh (200 IM, 1:50.77 and 500 free, 4:25.89) owns a pair of top seeds for the Class 2A boys meet.

Among the top seeds for the Class 2A girls meet are the Shady Side Academy 200 medley relay (1:48.18) as well as Shady Side junior Ava Jochims (200 IM, 2:01.36 and 500 free, 4:49.98), Hampton senior Lainey Sheets (100 butterfly, 54.21 and 100 back, 54.94), Winchester Thurston senior Thea Siegel (100 free, 51.11), the Franklin Regional 200 free relay (1:36.80) and the Shady Side Academy 400 free relay (3:33.06).

The lists are subject to change as some swimmers could opt to scratch out of one of their events, opening the door for one of more of the designated alternates to bump up into the field.

PIAA’s swimming and diving championship page at piaa.org also has championship information and a full schedule of events.

The afternoon diving meets and the consolation and championship swims each evening will be broadcast live on the Pennsylvania Cable Network.
