Franklin Regional’s high school musical had one of its biggest casts yet this year, and the elementary school isn’t far behind.
A team of more than 125 student performers, crew members and set designers will debut “Olympus: A Greek Rock Musical” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Franklin Regional Intermediate School.
“The group continues to get bigger every year,” said director Christine Klemstine. “It’s a lot to get them all onstage.”
The musical was written by Beat By Beat Press. Klemstine said she’s enjoyed the company’s work the past few years.
“They create musicals for this age range, and it’s stuff that the kids can relate to,” Klemstine said. “Plus there’s always a really good lesson in each show.”
In “Olympus,” a group of cousins decide to go on a hike, and the Greek gods decide to throw a bunch of challenges in their path.
“The story is about how the kids overcome those challenges, and the show has themes that touch on forgiveness and working through strong emotions,” Klemstine said.
Following the success of other recent fifth grade shows, including the group’s fall production of “Transyl-Mania,” Klemstine said organizers decided to add a third show date for 2026.
“I love seeing the whole creative process come together,” she said. “Watching the kids go from a shy, quiet place to learning how to inhabit a character is a lot of fun. It’s great to see it go from bits and pieces to the whole production.”
Tickets are $5 and are available at the door, 4125 Sardis Road in Murrysville.
