Quaker Valley School District families and teachers have a blueprint for what to expect next school year.
The school board unanimously approved the 2026-27 calendar on Feb. 24.
Here are key dates:
• Aug. 26: First day of school — kindergarten through 9th
• Aug. 27: First day — grades 10-12
• Nov. 23-24: Parent/teacher conferences
• Nov. 25-27: Fall recess
• Dec. 23-Jan. 3: Winter recess
• March 22-29: Spring recess
• May 7: Prom
• May 31: Quaker Valley Kennywood Day
• June 7: Graduation
• June 10: Last day of school
The calendar is posted on the district’s website, qvsd.org.
Administrators like to get the next calendar out as soon as possible.
“Typically, we try to approve the calendar early in the new year to assist families with scheduling travel plans, summer camps, etc.,” district spokeswoman Michelle Dietz said. “This year, we faced challenges when several meetings had to be rescheduled due to the weather closures we had in January. This pushed the approval to the February agendas.”
She said the 2026-2027 calendar includes 178 instructional student days, which is more than the state requires.
The calendar allows for three cancellations for weather or other events prior to shifting to remote instruction.
Dietz said this is a practice Quaker Valley has utilized for several years.
More information regarding the calendar and first days of school will be communicated in late summer.
