A group of Fox Chapel Area students for the fourth consecutive year took the plunge to help raise money for Special Olympics.
High schoolers, along with students from Dorseyville Middle School, participated in the 2026 Cool Schools Polar Plunge at Acrisure Stadium on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. The event held Feb. 27 saw students from 78 schools splash into a pool of cold water for a good cause.
The district’s effort raised $30,881 — the highest amount by a team in Pennsylvania, according to organizers. The total was assisted by a Fox Chapel Area family who matched a portion of the donations given to the district’s team, school officials said.
Proceeds will support the district’s Unified Sports teams, as well as those across the state. The teams promote inclusion through competitive experiences in sports such as track and bocce.
Over the past four years, the Fox Chapel Area Polar Plunge team has raised $152,888.
Donations are still being accepted toward the district team’s tally at give.specialolympicspa.org/team/790101.
