The PIHL Penguins Cup quarterfinals conclude with three more high school hockey playoff games Thursday.
Two PIHL powers are set to clash to determine the final piece of the Class A semifinal puzzle with a battle of the Valleys.
No. 6 Chartiers Valley challenges No. 3 Quaker Valley at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale at 9 p.m.
The Colts finished with 15 wins, two losses, one OT victory and three overtime losses.
The Quakers had 19 wins with one loss and one overtime loss.
Chartiers Valley is a year removed from winning the 2024 Penguins Cup Class A championship.
Quaker Valley has won five high school hockey cup titles, with the most recent coming 12 years ago when they finished a three-peat with gold in the 2014 finals.
The Colts finished in third place in the Class A Gold Division while the Quakers were the runners-up in the Blue Division.
In the Class A opening round, Jace Vasbinder scored a natural hat trick and goaltender Ian Lorang stopped all nine shots he faced as Quaker Valley blanked Greensburg Salem, 8-0.
Also in Round 1, Ben Waldron stopped 15 shots for the shutout as Chartiers Valley eliminated Hampton, 4-0.
This will be the first meeting of the year between the Quakers and Colts.
Wrapping up D2 quarters
There are two PIHL Division 2 quarterfinals Thursday.
While Burrell did not win the Division 2 title a year ago, losing to Morgantown in the PIHL finals, it did represent the PIHL in the inaugural Pennsylvania Challenge Cup.
Burrell defeated Pope John Paul II in that first state title game for teams at the Division 2 level.
Now the Bucs have more gold on their mind as they open up the 2026 postseason.
No. 5 Burrell (12-4-0-4) will battle No. 4 Connellsville (14-5-1-0) at CFS Bank Event Center in Belle Vernon at 9 p.m.
The Buccaneers finished four points behind the Falcons in the overall D2 standings.
In their only meeting this year, Connellsville beat Burrell in mid-November, 3-1.
In the other Division 2 quarterfinal Thursday, No. 6 Knoch (11-7-2-0) takes on No. 3 Ringgold (13-4-2-1) at CFS Bank Event Center at 7 p.m.
Way back in early October, the Rams shut out the Knights, 5-0.
