Matthias Lezama scored the winning goal 9:53 into overtime to give Quaker Valley a 3-2 victory over Chartiers Valley in the PIHL Class A Penguins Cup hockey quarterfinals Thursday night.

Max Modrovich scored twice and Ian Lorang made 27 saves for Blue division second seed Quaker Valley (20-1-1), which will meet Gold division champ Mars in the semifinals Wednesday at RMU Island Sports Center. Austin Tornabene and Joey Deangelis scored tying goals and Ben Waldron made 28 saves for Gold division third seed Chartiers Valley (16-3-3).

Burrell 2, Connellsville 0 – Jared Wall scored a first-period goal and Seth Munda made 19 saves to lead Burrell past Connellsville in the Division 2 quarterfinals. Ryan Burkett scored in the third period for No. 5 Burrell (13-4-4), which will face No. 1 Morgantown in the semifinals March 12 in a rematch of last year’s championship game. Nick Daniels-Nimick made 19 saves for No. 4 Connellsville (15-6).

Boys basketball

Cheswick Christian Academy 71, Kankakee Trinity Academy 49 – Joseph Rosio scored 27 points to lead Cheswick Christian Academy past Kankakee Trinity Academy in the Division 5B quarterfinals of the NCSAA championships at Cedarville University in Ohio. Brady Rochkind added 24 points and Sam Kostick added 16 for the Chargers, who will play in the semifinals Friday. Jackson Wood led Kankakee Trinity with 34 points.

Calvary Academy Christian Classic – Westmoreland Christian Academy went 1-2 in round robin play on the opening day of a two-day tournament in Butler.

In the first game, Westmoreland Christian Academy defeated Calvary Baptist Academy, 37-13, behind 10 points from Hunter Morrison. In the second game, Isaac Eisley scored 20 and Gabriel Leblond added 15 in a 46-27 win for Williamsport Christian. Morrison led WCA with 10. In the third game, Bible Baptist Christian of York won 35-21 behind 30 points from Landyn Kile.

Westmoreland Christian, the No. 3 seed, will meet No. 2 Williamsport Christian at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
