Welcome to Week 2 of the PIHL playoffs with all four classifications set for the final four and all eight games this week at Robert Morris University Island Sports Complex on Neville Island.
The focus on Day 1 will be the Penguins Cup Class 3A semifinals.
In the first game, defending champion and top-seed Seneca Valley battles No. 4-seed Pine-Richland at 7:15 p.m.
This is a matchup between the last two PIHL Penguins Cup 3A champions with P-R winning in 2024 and SV claiming gold a year ago.
In the quarterfinals, the Raiders skated past Upper St. Clair, 5-1.
Owen Martin had a goal and an assist, and teammates John Sroka and Cooper Hoehn each had two assists. SV goaltender Chris Nichols stopped 17 of 18 shots he faced.
The Rams outscored North Allegheny in the quarterfinals last week 6-3.
Cullen Campbell registered a hat trick with even-strength, short-handed and empty-net goals, plus he added an assist.
Seneca Valley improved to 18 wins with two overtime victories and an OT loss.
Pine-Richland is 9-5-3-4.
The Raiders defeated the Rams twice in the regular season, once in blowout fashion and another in an overtime shootout.
In the season opener Oct. 2, Seneca Valley crushed Pine-Richland, 8-1.
The rematch two months later was tied after regulation 3-3. Hoehn and Sroka scored in the shootout to give Seneca Valley the win.
In the second semifinals contest Monday, No. 2 Peters Township (15-4-0-2) takes on No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (12-7-1-1) at 9:15 p.m.
In the quarterfinals last week, Peters Township defeated South Fayette, 5-2.
Brendan Monko scored twice, and both Cameron Caruso and Chay Lamagna had a goal and an assist in the win for the Indians.
Thomas Jefferson edged Central Catholic, 3-1.
Lucas Blose had two goals, and Michael Burns had a goal and a helper. Goaltender Ben Balducci saved 18 of 19 shots on goal for the Jaguars.
The 2A semifinals are Tuesday, Class A Wednesday and the Division II semifinals Thursday, all at RMU Sports Complex.
Soccer alignment and schedules
This is a big week for WPIAL fall sports coaches, athletes and fans.
The district plans to release the new alignments and schedule for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
The WPIAL boys and girls soccer releases are first up Monday with the new sections to be unveiled.
Girls volleyball is slated for Wednesday and football Thursday.
