Monday’s “First Call” has eyes on wide receivers in the news when it comes to both the NFL draft and free agency. The Robert Morris basketball team hopes to take another step toward the NCAA tournament.

And the school’s hockey team took another leap back toward the level of success it had before the program was shut down in 2021.

Gone before he got there

One potential free agent wide receiver target for the Pittsburgh Steelers may be off the board before we even get to the NFL legal tampering period. It opens on Monday at noon.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, there is “widespread belief in league circles” that New York Giants receiver Wan’Dale Robinson will sign with the Tennessee Titans.

Brian Daboll is now the offensive coordinator for new head coach Robert Saleh in Nashville. Daboll just had Robinson when he was running the Giants. While there, Daboll drafted Robinson in the second round of the 2022 selection process.

Robinson had a breakout season of sorts in 2025, posting his first 1,000-yard campaign. Over 16 games, the Kentucky product had 92 catches, 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.

At just 5-foot-8, 185 pounds, Robinson may not be the big, outside-the-numbers pass catcher that could be a mirror for DK Metcalf, but he could be a more productive version of free agent Calvin Austin, who is hitting free agency.

Drawing interest

A draft prospect with ties to the Steelers is getting the attention of an AFC North rival.

Via Fox 8 News, the Cleveland Browns hosted Jordyn Tyson on a pre-draft visit this week. The Arizona State wide receiver is a possible first-rounder who has often been linked to the Steelers. His position coach with the Sun Devils was Hines Ward.

At 6-foot-2, 203 pounds, Tyson met with the Steelers at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The redshirt junior didn’t work out there as he is recovering from a hamstring injury.

That’s a knock on Tyson. He was often injured in college, but very productive when he did play. He tallied 61 receptions for 711 yards with eight touchdowns in nine games this year. In 2024, he had 1,1101 yards, 75 catches and 10 scores.

Last year, the Browns were led in receiving by tight end Harold Fannin with 72 catches and 731 yards. Jerry Jeudy was their top receiver with 50 catches and 602 yards.

Cleveland has pick No. 6 and pick No. 24. The Steelers are at No. 21.

Colonial campaign

The Robert Morris men’s basketball team has the late tip for Monday’s Horizon League semifinal round. The Colonials (22-10, 12-7 Horizon) play Detroit Mercy (16-14, 12-8) at 9:30 in Indianapolis.

The winner in that matchup will draw either Wright State or Northern Kentucky on Sunday in the conference final. The winner of that game on Tuesday would get an automatic NCAA tournament bid, something the Colonials secured a year ago.

Andy Toole’s club won its first-round playoff game at home against Youngstown State at the UPMC Events Center in Moon on Wednesday.

RMU has beaten Detroit Mercy twice already this season, 73-62 and 85-77. ESPN.com analytics gives the Colonial and 71.2% chance of beating the Titans Monday night.

Comeback continues

Meanwhile, the remarkable return of the Robert Morris men’s hockey team continues. In just their third year back from a program shutdown, the Colonials have advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic Hockey America semifinals.

That’s because Derek Schooley’s team won a quarterfinal series over the weekend against Air Force. RMU dropped Game 1 on Friday night, 3-2 in double overtime. But then they won Game 2 on Saturday 4-1, and Sunday’s Game 3 by a 5-2 margin.

Michael Felsing scored twice on Sunday.

Goaltender Charlie Schenkel made a program record 60 saves on Sunday.

Now the Colonials head out to Connecticut to face Sacred Heart in an AHA semifinal. The winner of that best-of-three will get whoever survives top-seeded Bentley versus fourth-seeded Holy Cross.

That will be a one-game playoff to determine AHA’s champion for the NCAA Tournament.
