An Ohio man filed a lawsuit claiming he has suffered cognitive issues after being hit in the head by a full beer can during an August concert at The Pavilion at Star Lake.
Michael Mollenkopf said in the lawsuit he was at an Aug. 9 Jason Aldean show at the venue when he was hit in the back of the head with what he believed was an unopened beer can. He was knocked unconscious, according to the lawsuit.
The filing said Mollenkopf has experienced cognitive issues, short-term memory loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, post-concussion symptoms and a speech impediment that has resulted in a stutter.
He is seeking damages for negligence.
The lawsuit was filed in Allegheny County against companies associated with the venue: Live Nation, Crossroads Properties and Legends Hospitality. Live Nation and Legends Hospitality didn’t immediately respond to messages Tuesday. No contact information could be located for Crossroads Properties.
The claims include that the defendants failed to appropriately train staff on how to handle potentially violent situations and intoxicated patrons, didn’t have enough security and served unopened, large cans of alcohol.
The Pavilion at Star Lake is a popular outdoor music venue in Washington County that regularly hosts popular acts and the large crowds that come to see them. It can hold up to 23,000 people, according to Live Nation.
There are about 7,000 seats close to the stage surrounded by a large grassy lawn which has a capacity of about 16,000.
