A Beaver County man was sentenced to state prison Wednesday in connection with a brutal beating last year at a Veterans of Foreign Wars lodge in Aliquippa.

Ronald Brown, 45, of Ambridge pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated assault, according to court records. He was ordered to serve three to six years behind bars.

Brown and another man were charged in connection with the Jan. 5, 2025, near-fatal beating of Preston Coleman III, then 52, inside the lodge on Penn Avenue.

Court papers indicated that Brown and Brett Ours, 40, of Aliquippa attacked Coleman at the lodge, beating him with a bar stool, choking him and punching him in the face and head.

Police said in court papers Coleman was punched nearly 250 times. The attack left Coleman with head injuries, brain swelling and bleeding, major fractures in his face and at least three broken ribs.

Ours was acquitted of an attempted homicide charge during a January trial. He was convicted of several other counts including aggravated assault, strangulation and related offenses. His sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday.

A third person charged in the attack — Ireland Brown, 22, of Ambridge — is awaiting a resolution in her case. She is charged with aggravated assault, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence. Police said she was working as a bartender at the time.

Ronald Brown is Ireland Brown’s father.
