Miles Killebrew will have a reunion with his former special teams coach after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ free agent safety and special teams specialist signed Thursday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In January, the Bucs’ Todd Bowles hired former Steelers special teams coach Danny Smith for the same position after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin resigned.

ESPN reported Killebrew signed a one-year contract for $1.8 million.

Killebrew played in 151 career games over five seasons with the Steelers and five with the Detroit Lions.

He played just five games before suffering a knee injury last season, when he was selected as a special-teams captain for the fourth time.

Killebrew has 91 tackles on special teams, the second most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2016.

With the Steelers, Killebrew made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and ’24. He also was selected first-team All-Pro in 2023.

He leads all active players in blocked punts with four.

Also Thursday, the Steelers announced they signed defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to one-year contracts.
