Some districts are doing better than others in certain classifications as we head to the third round of the five-round PIAA girls basketball playoffs.
In Class 6A, both Districts 3 and 12 have two teams left in the elite eight.
In both 5A and 4A, the WPIAL is shining bright with three of the four “western” teams still alive heading into the quarterfinals.
The WPIAL and District 2 each have two teams remaining in Class 3A.
District 2 and District 10 have two teams each left in the 2A state postseason.
But that pales in comparison to what District 6 is doing in Class A girls hoops with Bishop Guilfoyle Academy, St. Joseph Catholic Academy, Bishop Carroll and Williamsburg all set to square off in an all-D6 bottom half of the bracket Saturday.
This is no fluke though as the same four District 6 teams collided in the state quarterfinals a year ago.
There were some changes in each of the six classifications in this week’s Trib HSSN state rankings; however, none of those changes affected the very top of each class.
The top-ranked teams continue to be Archbishop Carroll in 6A, South Fayette in 5A, Central Columbia in 4A, Shady Side Academy in 3A, Berlin-Brothersvalley in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in Class A.
