Blackhawk and North Catholic squared off in the PIAA Class 4A girls basketball quarterfinals Saturday, fighting for the chance to avenge a loss in the WPIAL playoffs.

The Cougars lost to WPIAL champion Oakland Catholic in the finals. North Catholic lost to the Eagles a round before.

Blackhawk earned the rematch, getting 35 points from Aubree Hupp to earn a 59-37 victory.

Grace Huston added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Cougars (25-1), who used a 26-point second quarter to take control. Blackhawk will meet Oakland Catholic in the semifinals Tuesday at a time and site to be determined.

Kate Vislosky and Harmony Jones each scored 10 points for North Catholic (22-7).

Oakland Catholic 49, Penn Cambria 38 – Josie Fontana scored 13 points to lead WPIAL champion Oakland Catholic (24-2) past District 6 champion Penn Cambria (21-6) in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Zephania Troxler-Scott and Madi Pullen each added 12 for the Eagles, who will meet Blackhawk in the semifinals Tuesday.

Peters Township 52, York Suburban 46 (OT) – Peters Township came into the postseason with nine losses, but any team that underestimated them has paid the price. Taylor McCullough scored 20 points and Maddyn Mehl added 17 as Peters (18-11) upended District 3 champ York Suburban (24-3) in overtime in the Class 5A quarterfinals. Natalie Homisak scored 17 and Amaya Pope added 10 for York Suburban. Peters will face South Fayette in the semifinals Tuesday in a rematch of the WPIAL semifinals won 66-27 by the Lions.

Boys basketball

Central Dauphin 54, New Castle 43 – Shakur Sterling scored 19 points and Khalil Roberts added 10 to lead District 3 champ Central Dauphin (25-3) in the Class 6A quarterfinals. Damian Harrison scored 15 points to lead New Castle (25-3), which took the lead with an 18-6 advantage in the third quarter. Central Dauphin, which finished with a 20-5 edge in the fourth quarter, will face Upper St. Clair in the semifinals Tuesday.

Sewickley Academy 49, McConnellsburg 38 – Drew Steals scored 20 points as Sewickley Academy (28-1) started slow but finished strong as it beat McConnellsburg (27-2) in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals at Pitt-Johnstown. McConnellsburg held Sewickley Academy to three points in the first quarter and led 21-15 at halftime. Sewickley Academy outscored McConnellsburg 18-5 in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Mamadou Kane added 11 points for the Panthers, who will face Mercyhurst Prep in Tuesday’s semifinals. Brayden Ramsey paced McConnellsburg with 12 points.

Baseball

Atlantic Shores Christian 2, Bishop Canevin 0 – Brody Beasley threw a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and Josh Long drove in two runs for Atlantic Shores Christian. Jakob Zahler doubled for Bishop Canevin (0-2).

Bellefonte 14, Derry 1 – Isaac Gall went 2 for 4 with four RBIs to lead Bellefonte over Derry (0-1) in nonsection play.

Latrobe 7, Scranton Prep 2; Latrobe 11, Scranton Prep 3 – Latrobe (2-0) swept a season-opening doubleheader. In the first game, winning pitcher Cole Short and Ty Wisniewski singled and doubled and Joey Crimboli drove in two runs. In the second game, Noah Noel singled twice, doubled and drove in a run, Josh Short had two hits and three RBIs and Aaryn Chappel had two hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Moon 15, Regis (NY) 0 – Andrew Cross hit a grand slam and Chris Sandor pitched a four-inning shutout with six strikeouts as Moon (2-0) beat Regis (NY) in St. Petersburg, Fla. Savor Vandetti hit a home run and scored four runs for Moon.

Moon 15, Hollins (FL) 0 – Nate Weber and Carter Posey combined for a one-hit shutout as Moon (3-0) recorded its second 15-0 score of the day by defeating Hollins (FL) in five innings in St. Petersburg, Fla. Nick Manchusko had two doubles and three RBIs for Moon, which featured six players with two hits each and 15 hits overall.

Mt. Pleasant 17, Calvary Day (NC) 11 – Ian Shipley doubled twice and homered and Bobby Smithnosky homered and drove in three runs to lead Mt. Pleasant (1-0) in Myrtle Beach. Sonny Marne doubled twice and drove in three runs and Dane Firmstone had a double and two RBIs for the Vikings.

North Hills 15, Gateway 0 – Cooper Ravenstahl homered and drove in three runs, Jacob Jurgensen also homered, Sean Good went 3 for 3 with a double and Andrew Rojik threw a four-inning shutout to lead North Hills (1-0) to a nonsection win. Bryce Rogacki doubled for Gateway (0-1).

Palmyra 5, Deer Lakes 0 – Logan Kriner, Grady Stephens and Aidan Willard combined on a three-hit shutout for Palmyra in Myrtle Beach. Nolan Danka had two hits for Deer Lakes (1-2).

Plum 11, Northside Christian 1 Connor Wilson had two triples and drove in two runs as Plum (3-0) defeated Northside Christian in St. Petersburg, Fla. Brennan Ryan and Brady Linhart had two hits and two RBIs each.

Plum 11, Rock Canyon 1 – Timmy Ruggiero had three hits and two RBIs, Andrew Monaco had two hits and two RBIs, Brennan Ryan singled, doubled and drove in a run and Ryan Lafferty had a double and an RBI for Plum (3-0) in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Red Land 12, Deer Lakes 1 – Cameron Sutton doubled and drove in three runs to lead Red Land in Myrtle Beach. James Gall singled and homered for Deer Lakes (1-2).

South Fayette 9, Archbishop Carroll 0 – Cody Bungert had three hits and three RBIs as South Fayette (1-0) beat Archbishop Carroll in St. Petersburg, Fla. Bennett Scheel and Ryan Speer combined for the three-hit shutout.

Upper St. Clair 13, Rock Canyon 3 – Nick D’Orazio went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Grayson Valancius went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Upper St. Clair (1-0) in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Jeannette 8, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 5 – Wyatt Schaeffer went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs while pitching a complete game win for Jeannette (1-1) in a win over OLSH (1-1). Ryan DeNinno had two hits for the Chargers.

Serra Catholic 5, Rochester 0 – Jake Anderson struck out six over four hitless innings as Serra Catholic (2-0) shut out Rochester (0-2). Cole Hann had two hits and drove in a run.

OLSH 15, Rochester 4 – Dean Douglass doubled, homered and drove in three runs, Chad Minton had two doubles and three RBIs and winning pitcher Ryan DeNinno singled twice, doubled and drove in a run as OLSH (1-1) won the consolation game. Max Lyons had three hits for Rochester (0-2).

Serra Catholic 5, Jeannette 0 – Jake Jellison and Aiden Corbett combined on a three-hit shutout, Max Black went 3 for 3 with a homer and Cole Hann doubled and drove in a run to lead Serra Catholic (2-0) in the championship game. Dominico Ponzetti went 2 for 2 for Jeannette (1-1).

Softball

Hempfield 10, South Fayette 1 – Jayelyn Luft went4 for 4 and drove in two runs as Hempfield (1-0) defeated South Fayette (0-1) in Orlando, Fla. Claire Mitchell added two hits and two RBIs. Julia Varhola picked up the win, allowing two hits and striking out seven over five scoreless innings.

Trinity 8, Blue Ridge 2 – Meredith Ashby doubled and drove in four runs and Maddie Ray struck out 11 in five innings to lead Trinity (1-0) to a win at Myrtle Beach.

West Mifflin 3, Mt. Lebanon 2 – Aubrey Jaskulski doubled home Rylie Dobnak for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as West Mifflin (1-0) beat Mt. Lebanon (0-1). Jaskulski went 3 for 3 while Dobnak had two hits and an RBI and threw a complete game, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out 13. Lily Dwyer took the complete-game loss for Mt. Lebanon, giving up six hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Sarah Stroh had a solo home run for Mt. Lebanon.

Shenango 4, Beaver 1 – Kennedi Lynn tossed a complete game, striking out three, as Shenango (1-0) defeated Beaver (0-1) in a nonsection game. Brianna Aluisa went 3 for 4 with an RBI for Shenango.

Flag football

North Catholic 26, Ellis School 19 Gabby Valentine threw touchdown passes to Riley Marsico, Lizzie Fabian and Simone Sharpless as North Catholic defeated Ellis School.

Penn Hills 50, Bishop Canevin 0 – Aniyah Hickman intercepted three passes and ran one back for a touchdown and Atheena Burnett picked off two balls and returned both for scores to lead Penn Hills. Trinity Fielder and Jordin Stubbs each threw two touchdown passes and Caidyn Rice threw another. Aniyah Hickman, Aujanaye Anderson, Saniya Horsley, Brooke Johnson and Sky’Shay Freeman made TD catches.
