Born out of the covid-19 pandemic, Pittsburgh indie rockers Chet Vincent & the Music Industry are back with their second album.

“Static on the Radio” was released earlier this month: “It’s really good, and (people) should listen to it while driving,” Vincent said.

The album features the single “Sweet Mary,” which is about “an ‘on-again, off-again’ relationship with the sometimes fun, sometimes anxiety-inducing Mary Jane,” according to Vincent.

The band will hold a release show on March 28 at the Sanctuary at Mr. Smalls in Millvale, with plans to record the show for a live album.

“This stage is pretty unique in that it is also the home to their recording studio,” Vincent said. “So we have a unique opportunity to record our album release show and hopefully release some or all of those songs as a live record sometime in the future.”

Vincent, who has put together a number of projects, recently had a band T-shirt pop up on an episode of the CBS mystery show “Watson.”

“I love the feeling of being a part of a band and the way all the work comes together and the reaction of the audience,” he said. “That’s a high all musicians are chasing.”

The live music scene in Pittsburgh has plenty of choices, but Vincent wanted to give props to a venue north of the the city.

“All of our venues in town have something unique about them and are run by people who genuinely love music — we are really spoiled as a city,” Vincent said. “But I sorta wanna shout out a spot outside the city, Big Rail Brewing (in Grove City). I love outdoor shows, and they have an amazing outdoor stage with the woods as a backdrop. Definitely worth day tripping out there to catch a show.”

Founding story: From 2008 until 2019, my main musical project was a rock band called The Big Bend. In 2017, I formed a folk rock side project under my own name with the backing band Biirdwatcher. Going into early 2020 it was clear, due to bandmates moving and entering new phases of life, that both of these projects would soon be wrapping up. I had a collection of different songs set aside for each band to record, but the covid pandemic blew up those plans. So instead of recording two separate albums, I gathered all the songs together and began working on them as a single studio project. The Music Industry was born during that recording process. Since I wasn’t tied to a particular band lineup, the studio band for that first record, “Young Leaves,” was a loose collective of musicians gathered from all around the Pittsburgh scene. We are now set to release a follow-up record, “Static On The Radio,” and we approached the recording process for this album with that same collective spirit.
