The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled defenseman Jack St. Ivany from a conditioning assignment with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Monday.
Deployed to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on March 9, St. Ivany skated in three AHL games and recorded an assist during the assignment.
Various injuries have hindered St. Ivany this season, limiting him to 17 NHL games and seven assists while averaging 15:38 of ice time per contest, predominantly on the right side of the third pairing.
A right-handed shot, the 26-year-old St. Ivany (6-foot-4, 197 pounds) is in the second year of a three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
In a corresponding transaction, the Penguins assigned defenseman Alex Alexeyev to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Initially recalled to the NHL roster Thursday, Alexeyev was scratched for two games before returning to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
At the AHL level this season, the 26-year-old Alexeyev (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) has appeared in 29 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and scored seven points (three goals, four assists).
A left-handed shot, Alexeyev is signed to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000. He is a pending restricted free agent this upcoming offseason.
