At the annual monthly WPIAL board meeting Monday, the district approved four co-ops in three different sports.
A co-op is a formal agreement approved by the PIAA and WPIAL allowing two or more schools to combine their student-athletes to field a single sports team.
This usually stems from one school not having enough athletes to host its own teams.
None of these four co-ops being approved affects the classification the team is currently in.
• For the upcoming baseball season, Sto-Rox has a co-op with students from Cornell and Nazareth Prep.
• For the upcoming girls flag football season, California has a co-op with Beth-Center.
• For the 2026-2027 boys track and field seasons, Propel Braddock Hills has a co-op with Propel Andrew Street and Propel Montour.
• For the 2026-2027 girls track and field seasons, Propel Braddock Hills has a co-op with Propel Andrew Street and Propel Montour.
Also, with the fall high school sports realignment and schedules released last week, district officials hope to have the winter sports alignment and schedules released in late April or early May.
The WPIAL is still waiting for the PIAA to release its fall and then winter sports playoff brackets for the next two years before the district can announce its playoff formats for the two-year cycle.
