Eric James scored 23 points, including the go-ahead baseline jumper in the final seconds, to lead Obama Academy to a 52-51 victory over Carver Engineering & Science in the PIAA Class 4A boys basketball semifinals Tuesday night.

Obama Academy (20-9) became the first City League team to reach the state finals since Allderdice lost in the Class 4A championship game against Roman Catholic in 2016. The Eagles will face defending state champ Devon Prep in the finals at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Sewickley Academy 64, Mercyhurst Prep 39 – Mamadou Kane scored 21 points and Adam Ikamba added 16 as WPIAL champion Sewickley Academy (19-1) rolled into the PIAA Class 2A championship game for the second straight year. Aiden Ollinger and Trent Garner scored eight points each to lead District 10 champ Mercyhurst Prep (22-7). The Panthers, who suffered a one-point loss to Linville Hill in the finals last year, will face District 2 champ Old Forge in the championship game at 2 p.m. Friday.

Baseball

Bethel Park 8, Providence Day 7 – Nick Rillo singled and homered and Brady Bruckner had two hits and three RBIs as Bethel Park (1-0) rallied from a 7-0 deficit to win in Myrtle Beach. Owen Turoski was the winning pitcher and Rillo picked up the save.

Franklin Regional 7, Bradford 3 – Evan Meeker threw five no-hit innings to lead Franklin Regional to a 7-3 victory over Bradford on Tuesday in Vero Beach, Fla. Tim Pirone doubled and drove in a run and Luke Williams tripled for the Panthers (2-0).

Franklin Regional 17, Glenelg (MD) 2 – Winning pitcher Tommy Veruggio threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings and had two hits and four RBIs to lead Franklin Regional to a 17-2 win over Glenelg (MD) on Tuesday in Vero Beach, Fla. Evan Meeker had three hits and three RBIs for the Panthers (2-0).

Putnam Science 16, Mt. Pleasant 8 – Maximo Sanchez-Sano doubled twice and drove in two runs to lead Putnam Science in Myrtle Beach. Bobby Smithnosky had two doubles and two RBIs and Sonny Marne doubled and plated three for Mt. Pleasant (1-2).

St. Petersburg 8, Mars 7 – David DiAngelo went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lead St. Petersburg. Colin Yurisinec went 4 for 4 with a double and Grady Speigle went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for Mars (0-1).

Softball

Bryan 10, Franklin Regional 0 – Thea Staten threw a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Bryan in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Jefferson County 14, Franklin Regional 5 – Kenzli Trent went 3 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs to lead Jefferson County in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Bella Salas went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Franklin Regional (0-6).

Mohawk 9, Bonner-Prendergast 2 – Reagan Magno struck out 11 and didn’t give up an earned run in seven innings to lead Mohawk (1-0) in Myrtle Beach. Addy Moskal had three hits, including a triple, and three runs scored while Gianna Pezzuolo had two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors.

South Allegheny 9, Bonner-Prendergast 6 – Cadence McBride singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three, runs and Angelina LaGuardia had a double, triple and RBI to lead South Allegheny (1-1) in Myrtle Beach.

Trinity 16, South Allegheny 1 – Elora Friend went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs and Nina Christy tripled and plated a pair to lead Trinity (4-0) in Myrtle Beach. Cadence McBride tripled for South Allegheny (1-1).
