We have reached the championship round in the PIAA boys basketball playoffs, which means it’s time for District 12 to shine.
District 12, consisting of schools that make up the Philadelphia Catholic League and the Philadelphia Public League, has dominated the state boys basketball playoffs over the last decade and a half.
This year is no different.
Nearly half of the championship field, five of the 12 teams, are from District 12.
The only title game without a District 12 team is in Class 2A after Paul Robeson lost in the quarterfinals.
Imhotep Charter in 6A, Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast in 5A, Devon Prep in 4A, West Catholic in 3A and Sankofa-Freedom in Class A are set to represent Southeastern Pa.
The other seven teams are split between four districts.
The WPIAL has Sewickley Academy in 2A and Neighborhood Academy in Class A.
District 3 has Central Dauphin in 6A and West York in 5A.
District 2 has Old Forge in 2A and District 8 (Pittsburgh City League) has a team in the state finals for the first time in 10 years with Obama Academy in 4A.
Districts 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11 are spectators only this weekend.
