Two men charged with attempted burglaries in Murrysville this month are facing additional charges related to a third attempted burglary the same day in neighboring Penn Township.
Sebastian M. Montano 24, of Chicago, and Kevin D. Piza-Alzate, 24, of Reading, were initially both charged with burglary and criminal conspiracy for allegedly breaking into a house on the 7000 block of Fair Oaks Drive in Murrysville on March 6.
According to police, one of the men was photographed by a security camera inside the house and a security camera caught an image of a red 2005 Toyota Scion with a bike rack leaving the scene before police arrived.
Less than 10 minutes after police responded in Murrysville, a Penn Township woman on Raymaley Road called 911 to report someone ringing her doorbell. When she looked out the window, police said, she saw a red car with a bike rack and heard someone pounding hard on the front door. The woman told police she yelled for the man to stop, at which point he ran away toward the red car parked in the home’s driveway.
Penn Township police responded and found two different shoe prints near the rear kitchen door, and saw that the kitchen’s storm door had been pried open, with damage to both the door and door frame from a prying tool, according to court records.
While at the scene, police learned that their counterparts in Monroeville had conducted a traffic stop on a 2005 red Toyota Scion, and had taken Montano and Piza-Alzante into custody.
Piza-Alzante was identified as the man inside the first home burglary in Murrysville, and the treads on both mens’ shoes was consistent with footprints found at the Raymaley Road burglary in Penn Township. Fingerprints on the damaged storm door were also identified as Montano’s, according to a sworn affidavit.
Police reviewed surveillance camera footage and were ultimately able to track the red car on its way from Murrysville to Penn Township.
Both men were charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. They were arraigned Friday morning and returned to Westmoreland County Prison.
An attorney was not listed for either of them in court records.
A March 31 hearing is scheduled in District Judge Rebecca Tyburski’s Penn Township court.
