The North Shore will gain a new dining and entertainment space ahead of the Pirates’ home opener and the NFL Draft.
Legacy Hospitality Partners announced on Thursday that The Plaza at North Shore, along with its first restaurant concept, SugarBird, will open on April 2. The 30,000-square-foot Plaza is located at the corner of Mazeroski Way and General Robinson Boulevard, across from PNC Park, and has been planned since 2023.
SugarBird, the Plaza’s first “in-footprint” restaurant, is a fast-casual concept featuring chicken tenders and nuggets, donuts and soft-serve ice cream. A large outdoor patio within SugarBird will offer a full bar with frozen drinks. A second concept, Highball Social Club, described as an “experiential” restaurant and bar, is also set to open within the Plaza’s footprint in late fall 2026.
According to a news release, the outdoor plaza space includes a 40-foot LED screen that will air games, movies and other entertainment. After its kickoff, developers aim to attract year-round visitors with live music, yoga, festivals and other “activations,” including a series of concerts featuring national headliners during the NFL Draft, starting April 22.
“This is the crown jewel of the North Shore and we are unveiling it at a time when all eyes are on Pittsburgh. We are opening with a lot of fanfare and worldwide notoriety, starting with opening day and leading right into the Draft,” Herky Pollock, owner of Legacy Hospitality Partners, said in a news release. Pollock also described The Plaza at North Shore as a generational project in what “has rapidly become the city’s premiere entertainment district.”
Pollock announced the formation of Legacy Hospitality, a new dining and “eater-tainment” group, on Monday. The new group assembled the team behind concepts including Ritual House, Palm Palm, Shorty’s and The Common Good, which recently opened in Downtown’s Union Trust Building.
Legacy is collaborating with Chicago-based Barker/Nestor and Pittsburgh-based landscape architects Merritt Chase to build out the Plaza concept.
The Pirates’ 2026 home opener is scheduled for April 3 against the Baltimore Orioles.
