A Gilpin man in his 40s was taken into custody after a standoff with police Friday evening.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident along the 100 block of Stullville Road in the township.

Southern Armstrong Regional Police Chief Chris Fabec said officers initially responded to a call for a man claiming to be kidnapped.

Further information and Armstrong County dispatch communications determined the man was having a mental health episode and was threatening law enforcement and himself.

County sheriff’s deputies, as well as state police, Manor and Kiski township police also responded to the scene.

Residents and visitors were told to avoid the area and stay in their homes while officers addressed the situation.

The stay-inside directive was first posted at about 8 p.m. and lifted shortly before 10 p.m.

Fabec said the man was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He was not identified.

The investigation is ongoing.
