A McKees Rocks resident shot and killed a 20-year-old in the borough Friday night, borough police said.
Jayden Knight, 19, is facing a criminal homicide charge after police say he shot Maya Parker Parker once in the head.
Details in the criminal complaint against Knight were scant.
The complaint said police responded to an apartment building at 23 Singer Avenue just after 8 p.m. for reports of a woman who had been shot.
Two unnamed witnesses in the apartment at the time of the shooting told police they heard a loud pop followed by the front door of the apartment opening and closing, according to the complaint.
The two entered Knight’s room to find Parker bleeding from the head, the complaint said.
One of the witnesses told police Parker had been staying with them for “a couple months,” according to the complaint. But police did not specify Parker’s relationship to Knight or the two witnesses.
When a McKees Rocks police officer arrived at the scene, the complaint said Knight — standing at a nearby bus stop — told the officer: “I’m the one you’re looking for; I did it,” and said the gun was “in the room.”
Police recovered a 9mm handgun and one spent casing in the bedroom, according to the complaint.
The complaint did not address the circumstances or potential cause of the shooting.
Parker was pronounced dead around 9:15 p.m. at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office listed her home as out of county.
Knight’s preliminary hearing is set for April 8.
