Police in Indiana, Pa., say a Clairton man fired five shots from a stolen handgun into the air before leaving the borough Saturday evening.

In a release, Indiana Borough police say Tymere Johnson, 22, let the bullets fly near the intersection of School Street and West Avenue in the borough’s downtown before entering the backseat of a vehicle and departing the scene. No one was reported injured by the gunfire.

Many Indiana University of Pennsylvania students had been observing a belated St. Patrick’s Day as part of the unsanctioned “IUPatty’s” weekend celebrations, leading to an increased police presence in the area.

The vehicle was soon stopped by state police on Route 119, where Johnson was identified, police said.

Johnson is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, person not to possess a firearm and receiving stolen property, according to police. His charging documents were not immediately available.

Police said the .40 caliber pistol pistol recovered from Johnson was stolen.

Johnson remains in Indiana County Jail ahead of his arraignment, according to the release.
